So I want to start my three month south of the border stint with a few weeks of spanish classes in costa rica. A few questions...
1) How long would you recommend? My goal is to come back reasonably proficient in Spanish. I don't plan on writing a novel in the language, but I'd like to have a rudimentary conversation in tenses other than present. I was thinking 3 weeks, 5 hours a day. Too long?
2) Book something online or find something there? When I went to Costa Rica a few years ago it seemed that every hostel, hotel, bulletin board, and dog had a flyer for language classes. There's a similar abundance of language schools found online. I have a suspicion that I can find cheaper language classes once I'm there. The ones I find online are for rather structured programs that include meals and homestays and excursions. While all of those are fine and dandy, they are also pretty expensive. Unfortunately, I just don't have $1200 to spend on 3 weeks of classes. Should I wait until I get there and find some sort of semi-private class that may be cheaper, but less structured? Or should I shoot for the legit programs I can find online?
3) Any recommendations?
Reply to this Hi,
A lot of people go to Antigua (me included), but it´s a bit pricey and the schools are mixed - some good, some not. The one we went to was pretty good - Academia Antiguena Espanol or something.
I've just got down to Nicaragua and I´m studying at the mariposa school near Masaya, and I have to say it´s loads better.
