Hello!

I'm gonna be at the Carnival too!!! I too have the same concerns about camera etc... as I'm a camera freak! I've booked a hostel for 5 nights then moving on to Sao Paulo... I wanna capture the buzz of the place, the people and the heavyyyyyyyyy clubs and to be honest i don't fancy carrying disposables...so.... i reckon i'll risk it and arm myself with a cam...

I really wanna take a small vid cam, but wouldn't bother takin it out at night... might take a little mp4 player? Reply to this

Yeh book it asap... It took me a few weeks to find something and a lot of the places were mucho expensive! I've booked Copacabana area, only because it's my 1st time there and have always wanted to go, but, I think Ipanema is meant to be a happening place. So you could try there too.

Good luck!

How long you staying there for? Reply to this

Arriving into Buenos Aires on Nov 19th - have flight booked out of Rio for Feb 16th - can change this closer to the time if I need longer. Will start looking into hotels ASAP. Thanks, Lisa Reply to this

I booked a hostel on hostelworld.com - was weird booking so far in advance but I guess it needs to be done. It was pretty expensive relative to accommodation there for any other time but I guess that is the price to be paid for the biggest party in the world! Reply to this

Hey! Well Done!

Yeh it's so expensive at that time, but after the carnival it's sooo much cheaper!

Hi Kaz,

I normally wouldn't book so far in advanced, but, this being carnival things get booked up really quickly! Plus, it's so much more expensive... I looked around on the net and found a hostel near the beach... best thing to do is search around for an area you want to stay in, then, look for a place....

I thought about just turning up there too, but a lot of ppl advised me to book early... you can try and do it your way, you never know, but just in case get a booking somewhere.... I booked mine on trav.com...give em a go...

Yep. Places to stay fill up really quickly during Carnival season. I live here now in Rio de Janeiro and love Carnival. You can easily get around on public busses or take the shuttle vans. They will take you right to Lapa and they seem to pass buy every 30 seconds when you´re in Lapa heading back in to Copacabana.

Carrying a digital camera can be asking for trouble, especially if you´re a girl on your own. Make sure you bring plenty of disposables because they´re expensive here. Use your digital during the day or when in groups. In Lapa the drinks are cheap so you might not want to have too many. Always better to be safe than sorry and keep your witts. But Lapa is a Blast on Friday nights. You´ll meet people from every corner of the world.

Have fun and be safe.
I´ll be here for carnival if you´d like to meet up and have a cold one

hi lalo,
thanks for the tips, (and all!) i have been looking and been suprised to find that a hotel has come up cheaper than a hostel! so word of warning to anyone looking for somewhere look at hotels too you may be pleased with the outcome. Saying that i still dont know what area, its so big!! if flash packing in a hotel want to be near the beach and near the action for the carnival. Lalo do you think capacabana is a good area to be? found a nice hotel there but not sure if gonna be out of it? thanks Reply to this

Hotels in Copacaban can be very expensive. It is near all of the action and very easy to move around the city via bus or subway. Copacaban and Ipanema are the hot spots but can be pricey. Stay a bit further out may save you a few dollars but might be a hassel when trying to move around.

Tchau
