I always end up making the wrong choice when it comes to buying plane tickets. So this time, I'm gonna' enlist the help of people who actually know what they're doing...
I need to get a domestic flight. The problem: I MUST fly during the December blackout date. More of a problem: I'm a college student with a very, very limited budget.
I always hear that you should buy it really early in advance. But then, I heard that it's best to wait.
Wait? Buy now? Will it keep going up now and will I miss my chance? Or should I wait and perhaps it will go down? Does that rule even still apply to the blackout dates?
I'll spend the money if I have no choice, but... I'd like to be able to eat for the next couple of months.
HELP! Thanks in advance!

Buying tickets is a bit of a lottery - and it depends if you are willing to gamble a bit to get a better price. Basically, you will find that if airlines have excess spare seats, they'll drop the price dramatically just prior to the travel dates (anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two). If you have a little flexibility with your travel dates, this is a great method - however, not always guaranteed to work.
If you must travel on a specific day, then your choice will really be to pay the higher price, or visit various reputable travel websites or agenices who may offer various specials periodically. Having said that, there is less likelihood of many special offers in late December.
This probably only tells you what you already know - but the basic rule is if you want to pay less, be flexible with your travel dates.
