Looking for anyone who has taken the train from Moscow to Beijing ...

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some information about taking the train in Russia. We'd like to fly into St.Petersburg for a few days and then go to Moscow for a few days and then take the train all the way from Moscow to Beijing. Has anyone done this and if so, how did you go about it?? Did you book in advance or upon arrival? How long was the ride and what did it cost?

Thank you!!! Reply to this

Firstly you need a russian visa and letters of invitation. Letters of invitation are supplied by hotels etc that you are booked with. The visa takes 2 weeks to arrive. We used a UK company to provide the letters of invitation and visa, cost £85 each (saves a lot of running about etc).
Trans Siberian railway was booked through "Connect Russia" tickets to be delivered to our accomodation on arrival. Best to book early as tickets are in high demand. Cost of ticket £208. Journey takes over 6 days.
Hope this helps
