I have 10 days to spend in Laos, starting from Vientiane, do you think 10 days is enough to plan for vientien, luang prabang and vang vieng, or I can add other destination? what's the weather like from 1st Nov?
Reply to this wow!! it's very nice weather to visit Laos on Nov ,the weather is quite warm and cold in the morning and night. it's quite cold in the northern Laos such as Luangprabang,Sumnua, Xiengkuang,Phongsaly.... my opinion 10days are not enough to travel throughout country in Laos, but you can experieced and travel in the most papular place such as vientiane,Vangvieng,Luangprabang and the southern Laos.
Reply to this Thanks for the info, I will be visiting only few main destinations for this trip, I am sure I will come back for more, I guess I need to carry some warm clothes then,
Reply to this 4000 islands in the Southern Laos,is a relaxing place to visit, think about it!!
Reply to this HI
I am currently planning a 6wk SE Asia trip january next yr. I know i am trying to fit a lot in this time but its all ive got unfortunatly.
I will only get 1 week in Laos so I was wondering what u would suggest I see and do in this short period of time. I will be coming in from Thailand and leaving through Vietnam borders.
Thanks for all your time!!!
Reply to this Hey this is what I did and wouldn't change it for the world........
Bkk to Chang Mai, Huay Xai to Luang Prabang on the 2 day slow boat, Vang Vieng, Vientianne, Pakse, Savannaket, 1000 islands Si Pan Don then into N.Cambodia, Siem Reap, Pnomh Penh, Shinoukiville, then on towards Ho Chi Minh for the long trip up the Vietnam coast to Hanoi.
I had to take a second trip to Loas and do Luang NamTha, the Gibbons Experience, hire a 250cc bike and explore the Khammoune province....
Honestly leave 4 months to do all the countries on the list. You'll still want more...
Check my blog out for stories
Reply to this Oh that post was meant for the last page.....
1 week in Loas!! You're mad, spend the most time here Chook
Reply to this hello people,
i plan to visit laos for 10 days. probably gonna spend my time in northern and western laos. whats the popular currency in laos? is it lao kip or us dollar?
any suggestion on places that have a nice scenery for photography?
many thx...
Reply to this Hi,
For sure the lao kip. Using usdollars is very difficult in Laos, especially in the north. We went to northern Laos last year and I should recommend trekkings in Luang Namtha for nice pictures. Also going by boat on the Nam Ou river is very beautiful.
Enjoy!
Reply to this thx sdroovan...
how about accomodation and food? is the price the same like in thailand?
how much on average u spend a day for food accomodation and travel...
the cheapest of coz...
Reply to this Hi,
Loas is cheaper than Thailand. How much we spend is difficult to tell, but all incl (transp, sleeping, food, ...) I think about 15 a 20 euro a day, maybe less because sometimes we had a 2-bed room for 3 euro.
Reply to this This thread is great, thanks for all your advice!!
I am trying to book the Gibbon Experience in northern Laos but the website does not work. I would like to book a couple of weeks in advance to ensure I don't miss out. How can I do this???
Thanks 😊
Reply to this Try phoning them but you should receive a reply by email. I made sure by ringing 1 month in advance. If you're travelling from Luang Nam Tha stay in the drop off village on the way to Huay Xai. No need to travel the whole way to Huay Xai. Say Saibaydee to Mr Myboon And be sure to have a Lao Lao with him. You'll be picked up the next day. Great experience. Do the classic tour. Less hiking and more zip lines.
Reply to this I was just informed today that a Visa is now needed to get into Laos. Not sure if this is just rubbish or if a visa is actually needed. I'm assuming if one is needed I will be able to get one in Bangkok. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Archie
Reply to this A visa has always been needed for Laos. You can get it at most border crossings and you can also get it at travel agents in Bangkok.
Reply to this I know I've posted some advice on the board but now I need some.....Jaykhonlao, do you know what time the border from Chiang Kohng to Huay Xai opens? Thinking of making a very quick visit to the Gibbons X AGAIN. Trip number 3 to Laos, woo hoo!! I know I'll move Full Time one day.
I'm trying to think if I land in Chiang Rai and head straight up to Chiang Khong will I be able to get across early in the next morning to start the Gibbons X. I know I won't make the border before it shuts.
Cheers
Reply to this Hey!! thank for your question, I had never been to Chiangkhong-Houyxay border. it normally opens at 8 AM-6PM? make sure that you won't be later than 6 pm.
Reply to this Hi there everyone, I visited Laos last year and I have to say that this country is one of the best places I have visited in a long time. Where most countries are modern and changing with technology, Laos still remains original. In other words, when in Laos, you will not see McDonalds, Starbucks or Hiltons here. Perfect in all ways, I have already planned my next trip to Laos in 2010. I also wrote a travel blog just on
is you want to see pictures and read up about it.
Luang Prabang has to be one of my favorites considering that it is a UNESCO World Heritage Town. The place is absolutely amazing! So, if you have doubts about visiting Laos, please don't. You should visit it now while the old charm of Laos is still strong.
Regards,
David
