Family Vacations Outside Paris

What to do with the kids outside of Paris?
16 years ago, July 3rd 2007 No: 1 Msg: #15936
We are heading to Paris in a few days and our kids have seen most of the tourist places already. We were hoping to take them outside the city for a few days, any suggestions of where to go? I'm open for ideas. Reply to this

Not sure if this reply is in time but I would suggest-

- RER A to St Germain en Laye. It is a lovely historical town with the birthplace chateau of Louis 14th and an excellent panoramic of Paris and La Defence. There is a forest where you can ire bikes, great shops and a market. King James is buried beneath the church.
- Get the train to Normandy if the weather is fine. An hour and a half or so will take you up to Rouen or perhaps head to Bayeaux for the Tapestry or the Beaches. Honfleur is lovely.
-As it is the vacances here at the mo, there are loads of ateliers for kids on. For example the Jardin d'Acclimation has kids cookery classes, papier mache sessions etc etc and the Atelier in the Pompidou centre have great activities on for kids, obviously depending on their age.
-Giverny is nice for Monet's gardens, especially in the summer.
-Parc Asterix for FUN! Better than Disney and more French. Alternatively, Aquaboulevard for a waterpark in Paris itself.
-Bastille Day Saturday so there are fairground rides and a big wheel in the Tuileries.

PS. It has been pouring with rain for days here so best find things to do inside!! Reply to this

Maybe Euro Disney ?? How old are your kids ? That may be ideal. Also I've heard an area called Brittany that is real nice ! Reply to this

You might want to check out the Loire Valley around Tours and Blois. The area is covered in Chateaus and there are many 15th - 17th century Chateaus that you can stay at. My kids were 6 and 14 when we first went and that is still their favorite part of Europe. Chamboard and Blois along with others, would keep any little one busy. It is also a very fun train trip from Paris to Tours. Reply to this
