Madeline.....

I visit Burma (Myanmar) twice year for approximately 3 weeks at a time.

I lived and worked in Yangon during 1999 and 2000, so know the place quite well. I met my now wife there who is from the Irrawaddy Division and we have three lovely children - half Burmese/English.

First of all, where are you flying or travelling to Myanmar from?

I use the excellent Qatar Airways from Manchester via Doha then directly to Yangon from Doha.

For the best hotels at the best prices please visit www.planeyholidays.com NOBODY beat them for prices in quality hotels.

I can recommend any of these hotel where I have stayed:

Summit Park View
Sedona
Park Royal
Kandawgyi
Nikko Royal Lake

If you e-mail me back, I can send loads of ourist info stuff and possibly pix, but I'll try and get them uploaded on this forum first.

Regards

Madzia.....

OK, If I could speak to you it would be better - as there is so much more information I can give you rather than writing here.

For a start, the best place to go for internet cafe is Spiders Web, at the bottom-end (city end) of Alan Pya Phaya Road. This is pretty much next door to the Park Royal Hotel where we stayed last Christmas and April, and also this Christamas. The cost is just 600 Kyat's per hour. You get 1,300 Kyats per Dollar at the moment. So that's 2600 Kyats to the Pound - assuming you maybe in England???!!!!!!!

We will be in Yangon from 11th December 2007 (my birthday!) and leave on 27 December 2007. If you do happen to be there at this time, let me know. The best times to visit are between November and February (a UK Winter-time).

I recall you saying about going in July/August? If so, forget it. Its raining pretty much every day and all the beach resorts are closed.

Anything else you want to know, give me a shout here or below.

Regards....

I was planning on travelling in Myanmar in the new year and am especially interested in visiting the mergui archipelago. im hoping to start in that area and finish towards north but am concerned about the countrys seemingly strict rules on A) where i am staying every day and B) areas which i am allowed to visit.
can anyone shed any light on any of these issues, or perhaps recommend any hostels/cheap hotels for me to stay in? is there an easy way to access this area from the south of Myanmar/Thailand border as this is where i am hoping to enter from.

Thanks all!
