Travelling to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Oz, NZ in one months time.
Hi all,
my girlfriend and I are flying to Bangkok on the 1st May and travelling to various locations in Asia/Australasia. This is our first time travelling and we do not know really what to do for visas and I don’t fancy paying premium rate numbers to listen to recorded messages!
I was wondering whether any of you kind people would be able to help out?
In particular at the moment we are wondering about the thai one: The Thai embassy website says you can get a visa on arrival, providing you have proof of leaving within this time - our onward flight is actually from Singapore 2 months later, does that mean we need to buy a 60 days one? Also as we are going to go in to Laos for a couple of days - does that mean we need to pay for multiple entries?
Does anybody have any ideas on this and any hint/tips for other destinations?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Reply to this Hi Steve and Suz,
What most travelers do is get the 30 day Thai entry visa upon arrival. Then they travel to Mae Sai north of Chiang Rai and cross over into Burma and back (you cannot stay overnight in Burma) to get another entry for another 30 days. You can also do this in Ranong.
I have been living in Thailand for 14 years and if you would like more information about Thailand you can call me using Skype VOIP on your computer. My contact name on Skype is allthaiexp.
Reply to this Thanks for your reply, sorry I do not use Voice over IP.
Considering we only have a forwarding ticket from Singapore which is 2 months after our date of arrival in Bangkok - I am concerned we may be refused 30day visas on arrival. The embassy rules state that you need to provide provide evidence of a onward flight, Im guessing this is the same situation thousands of travellers must be in - so has anybody experienced a refusal?
Cheers
Reply to this Hi again,
As long as you have a ticket the date doesn't really matter. The most important thing is that when you get to the immigrations counter you dress properly, look clean, smile and be polite.
No t-shirt, shorts and sandles. Best to look like you have a little money to spend while in Thailand. The next best thing and probably the most important is to learn a little Thai. There is a great free Thai language learning web site at http://www.learningthai.com/
If you carry a passport from the USA. East Asia, Pacific rim or most European countries I don't see any problems.
Everything is up to the immigrations officer you will be talking with. If he or she likes you your in no worries.
If you are still worried best to get a 60 day tourist visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate.
Reply to this Thats great, thanks for your help.
Will take a look at that site!
