Hi,

I am going travelling with some friends beginning of next year.... i know, planning ahead.

obviously i don't want to plan everything but it would be good to have an idea of what i want to do so i can judge how long i want to spend in one place etc.

We will be covering Thailand, New Zealand, Fiji and Australia.

I would like to know the 'Must do' things in these places, trips events activities anything, so if any has some advice let me know!!

Hello... Some basic list of things you can do in Thailand, New Zealand and Australia.
Thailand: Grand Palace, Boat Ride along Sao Praya River, Patpong (Red district) for night shopping, Chatuchak for weekend shopping, MBK for day shopping, Pattaya (nearest beach) or you can go to Koh Chang much better than Phuket, 4.5 hrs from BKKby bus, Ayutthaya (oldest city), or you can go to Chiang Mai (elephant ride and night market).

Australia: I lived for 2 yrs in Brisbane so there is alot of places to visit in this area such as Gold Coast, popular theme parks, in Sydney (Opera House, Taronga Zoo), Melbourne (old jail, churches, countryside for skiing), Canberra (Parliament, Telstra Towers and other govt buildings)... If you love tropical place, then explore more places in Queensland where Australia Zoo and Barrier Reef could be found for snorkling and diving, and even rainforest.

And finally, for New Zealand, explore the city of Auckland, and some part of the Black Sea area where The Piano (the movie) was shoot. Unfortunately, I did not able to explore the rest of the north and south of New Zealand but if you like the countryside with skiing adventure, then go to South. But if you have limited time, I suggest just explore the city and nearby towns. Good luck!

Thailand - Patpong area in BKK for night markets and girly-boy spotting 😊. The Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha and Emerald Buddha are worth a look. Try to be in BKK on a Saturday and catch the Skytrain up to Chatuchak Weekend Market (10 mins north, Mo Chit station), it's THE best market in Thailand. Day trip it out to Kanchanaburi and visit the Tiger Temple where you can have your photo taken with a tiger! you can also see where the Bridge Over the River Kwai stood, and visit the war museums and cemetaries. Head up north to Chiang Mai for the 2nd best markets in Thailand, and the obligatory elephant ride. You should also day trip it up into the mountains and visit the tribes that live there still. Down south depends on what time of year you're there, cause when the Phuket side is good, the Koh Samui side is bad, and vice versa.

Australia - In Sydney the Opera House (have a drink at the Opera Bar underneath one day or night for a beautiful view of the bridge). Walk around and through the Botanic Gardens on the other side of the Opera House and relax on the grass with a picnic lunch. Catch a ferry to Manly and spend the day at the beach, as well as getting another awesome view of the city and harbour on your way there and back. Visit Bondi Beach for the day and if you're up for it do the costal walk southward towards Coogee Beach (and catch a bus back again). Head into Kings Cross, Oxford Street in Paddington, or Surry Hills for some of the coolest bars and clubs in town. Day trip it out the Blue Mountains and see the 3 Sisters (a rock formation), catch the scenic railway down the cside of the mountain (has to be seen to be believed) and do some bush walking if you're up for it.

In Queensland, visit the Gold Coast/Surfers Paradise. Do a 1 or 2 night camping tour on Fraser Island (the biggest sand bar in the world with wild dingos). Stay in Airlie Beach halfway up the coast and day trip out the Whitsunday Islands, particularly Whitehaven Beach. Head up to Cairns and day trip out the Barrier Reef for some snorkelling or learn to Scuba Dive. A great company to check out are Raging Thunder, they do White Water rafting on the Tully River 30mins south of Cairns, as well as other activities, and have some great accommodation deals.

New Zealand - Haven't been there myself yet, but being an ex-travel agent I know that you should visit the Bay of Islands right up north of the North Island, Auckland the biggest city (Nth Island), Christchurch on the South Island, Queenstown (Sth Island) is great for adventure stuff like bungy jumping. A company called Kiwi Experience is worth checking out for an easy way to get around and help with places to stay and things to do.

Have an awesome trip, and let me know if you have any other questions... Reply to this

Hi,

I am a travel writer/photographer who travels New Zealand 24/7-365 days a year in a seven metre bus with wife and two cats now for four years.
I have put a lot of information up that would take too much space here to transfer. Have a look at my website at www.newzealandtravelguide.net.
You may find what you need if not get in touch I'll be glad to help out with your questions.
