Internship in Saudi Arabia

has anybody been to saudi arabia before? i am offered a chance to go to saudi arabia's capital, Riyadh, as a student intern.
i thought this may be an opportunity but i am worry as well because i don't know how is the country like.

i am a singaporean chinese and this will be my first time going into middle east. i understand that it is a muslim country and there should not be alcohol or pork. but that's all that i know. is there anything else i need to watch out if i were to go?

my main concern is my own safety. the traffic over there looks frightening and there are little footpaths. how friendly are the people there is another thing which questions me. the crime rate there is the next factor that bothers me. will they be racist against chinese?

if you were me, would you go for such an internship? it is going to be a 4months trip!

Yes, if I was u I would go for the internship. As far as I have heard there a compounds where foreigners live in which they can do what they want. Also 4 months is not such a long time. Even if u dont like some aspects of the country u can be consoled that u are leaving soon.

Saudi is a place which has severe punishments for relatively small crimes and because of that there is a relatively low occurance of crime.

Just be careful in the traffic if it is so chaotic. Just watch how the locals manage to cross the street and copy them. Even wait until one of them is walking accross and walk beside them. That is what I do in countries with traffic like that. 😊 The locals understand all the signals the drivers make and if it is OK to cross.

Like many muslim countries Saudi will likely have a very strong tradition of hospitatlity. I doubt that they will display open rascism towards a foreigner who is temporarily in the country. I dont know what they think about Asian peolple but they often think that we in the West lack morals.

Just so u will know what u are looking at I would read some information about the culture, history, politics and about if there are attractions worth seeing. Is there a Lonely Planet Guide about Saudi? If so I would get that. I find the Lonely Planet books very informative. Also I would read the Amnesty reports about Saudi and the Saudi constitution(well do that if u want. I do because generally want to know the bad as well as the good about every country).

Be sure to come back here and tell us all about it. It is always interesting to hear about countries which are not heavily touristed. It would be really cool if u have time to write a blog for us all to read. 😊

I am also a medical student in China... and want to know about internship in Saudi Arabia because i am holding saudi visa already i use to renew it yearly....

so any oppurtunity for internship...... i dont know arabic language 😞
