I am thinking about travelling from Mexico down to Colombia this summer. If anyone could give me any information on their travels, places to visit--or not to visit--and any of their own experiences through border crossings. How safe are they? Prices one must pay. Or any other helpful information would be great. Thank you.
Reply to this Some places you should not have to pay to leave, such as Guatemala. Stay out of Belize; it is $18.75 to leave. When in doubt, be sure to demand a receipt before giving any money.
Reply to this Panama tries to make you have an outbound ticket before entering. If you slide a 5 dollar bill in your passport before giving it to them, they will not question you.
Reply to this Hi, I wouldn´t worry about the border crossings. We have crossed 7 borders in the last 3 months and didn´t have any problems. Just make sure that you get boths stamps and do not get back on the bus without them - if you are the only gringo you might be the only one who needs an exit and entry stamp! If you cross by foot, just ask around where the immigration is and get your stamps. Crossing from Panama to Costa Rica, we had to show an onward ticket, but they accepted our flight ticket from Mexico back to London. Otherwise, you just buy a bus ticket back to Panama and that´s fine. We are travelling up to Mexico, so any trouble we will let you know....
