17 years ago, March 22nd 2007 No: 1 Msg: #12168
Hi, I will be backpacking around china for a month in August or September, sites i aim to visit are Guilin, Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Tiger Leaping gorge, possibly a few other places but cant think off the top of my head, I will be on a budget so does anybody have any idea as to how much I will need roughly to survive in China for a month?
Any advice would be most welcome,
cheers,
Dan. Reply to this

Hi, a bed at hostel is around RMB 40 - 50/ day, city transportation is cheap, its from RMB 2 up. Transportation from city to city around RMB 100. Dining fee is upon your choice, from RMB 2 to few hundreds. The largest expenses should be the entrance fee to those national parks and historical sites, from RMB 30 - 100/ each. Reply to this

Hi,the biggest cost is the entrance fee and the transportation from city to city. The plane tickets from citiy to city is between abaout 500yuan to about 2000 yuan ,some times discouted ticket is much cheaper. And the train tickets is from 50 yuan to 200yuan ,you can also by car to some cities. Our travel agency can book the tickets and hotels well for you in these cities. Also we can plan for your routes. The price is fair. All is for your convenince.
Any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. china3737@hotmail.com http://www.china-panda.com/ Reply to this

Try not to fly Qatar Airways. You may not find your luggage, and they don't know how to handle it. It is happening to me right now... Reply to this

travel around china for one month, you'd better to make your prudential itinerary ahead of your travelling. In August or September is the low season for travel, to book the airtickets will be comparatively cheap as #2 and 3 said. The entrance fee will be expensive in same places. my advise for you is find the budget hotel first and consult the local agency for places to visit and ask the approximate entrance price. Besides Guilin, Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, I would recoommend other two places: one is Tibet (special permit is required), the other is Sanya, the only tropical paradise in Hainan. For info on Hainan Island, I can give you usefull advice. Reply to this

It really depends on how you want to travel and what places you want to visit.
Airplane tickets are as expensive as in U.S. Check www.ctrip.com for pricing info. for flying among cities.
Hotel cost depends. There are always cheap ones around, less than 100 a night, if you dont' mind the bathroom condition and limited time hot water supply.
Food also depends, but the good thing is you can eat really cheap anywhere in China. Watch for the sanitory condition though.
The big killers these days are the entry fee for all the parks. Usually they go by stars. The 5 star-ones are about 200 yuan, plus additional costs for cable lift and otheres, which could be another 80 yuan. 4 star-ones are 50 yuan. They do add up after awhile.
Also, don't underestimate the cost for traveling by car or buses. They can be really expensive. For example, a typical cab drive from the JiuHuang Airport to JiuZhai is about 240 yuan.
The bottom line is, unlike traveling in a lot of other countries, you need to carry a lot of cash with you. Bummer.
If you are interested in Yunnan Lijiang area (Jade-dragon snow mountain, Tiger leaping gorge, first bend in Yangzi river), JiuZhai (best one in China) and HuangLong, I can give you more details, since I've just been there less than a month ago. Reply to this
