When it's Rob Hirst ex Midnight Oil that's when!

My first ever Blues LP was Clarence Gatemouth Brown's "Gates on Heat"...led me on a journey in the blues that I can't get off.

My second Blues LP was Johnny Otis introducing his teenage son Shuggie Otis (something to look forward to in the week of the Letter "O"😉...but let's get into the "B"s!

Gatemouth's use of guitar, electric violin and Hammond organ still blows me away.

"B" is for CLARENCE "GATEMOUTH" BROWN

"THE DRIFTER" with CARLOS SANTANA...stunning

Another gem from the "Gates on Heat" LP...where musicians get political

CLARENCE GATEMOUTH BROWN with CANNED HEAT

The harmonica can be a Blues Kit in your pocket. When a Master plays it...it develops a life of it's own.

One such Master was Carey Bell who played with Robert Nighthawk, Lowell Fulson, Eddie Taylor, Louisiana Red and Jimmy Dawkins and was a frequent partner with his son, guitarist Lurrie Bell.

"B" is for CAREY BELL on harmonica & his son LURRIE BELL on guitar...Brilliant

"MUST I HOLLER"

Can't get enough of a good thing...father & son in the lounge room playing oh so cool

Sometimes harp (Harmonica) players are the lead singer taking a lyrical leap. But sometimes they are so good they are an integral separate part of the band. The harmonica player with MUDDY WATERS was a master in his own right...so good that "Mojo" was his middle name!

Saw him as the "Special Guest" in a gig with Willie Murphy & the Angel Hearted Hipsters in Auckland, NZ...sporting his ammunition belt of harps for every occasion.

"B" is for GEORGE "MOJO" BUFORD

Here on harp with the great Muddy Waters..."QUEEN BEE"
