What is the most expensive thing you've done on holiday? Did you spend an insane amount of money for a hotel room? Did you splurge for a first class airline ticket? Did you book something sinful?

For my 50th birthday Dave bought me a night at the hotel at the top of Machu Picchu. Wow. We've stayed in nicer hotels but the view could not be argued. Plus the expense included all the meals. What a great birthday.

What have you splurged on? Reply to this

For me, it depends on the definition of "splurge". I've certainly spent more than average on occasion to get a unique experience somewhere, but the total cost normally still falls below the cost of the plane ticket to get there. Its all relative.

I've spent cash for luxury and unique lodging on occasion:
1. The Jefferson in Richmond, historic and five star rated: The Glory of the New(ish) South
2. Nottoway, an authentic Mississippi River plantation: Life on the River
3. Signal Mountain Lodge in Grand Teton: Preparation

I once spent hundreds of dollars on a multi-day raft trip on the Tuolumne River. It was worth every cent: The best raft trip in the United States Rafting paradise

In my pre-blogging days I once spent almost $50 for lunch at Musso and Frank in Hollywood. The restaurant reeks of old Hollywood glamour, and I recognized several of my fellow diners : ) Reply to this

Wow! Good on Dave, that hotel at MP would have been breathtaking!

I think I'd splurge and take my first luxury cruise ship through the French Polynesias on the SV Paul Gauguin. Anybody got $15,000 lying about I can use? Reply to this
