instructions for dummies!

I'm completely new to this and (somehow) i've managed to add one trip, which was the second trip we took. Not sure what happened to the first trip? I can't see how to add subsequent trips. Also should I make it private or public. It is really for our own record and to show friends and family. Any advice would be really welcome! Reply to this

Welcome to Travelblog! I make my blogs public. Although you may start writing for yourself, families, and friends, soon you will discover that fellow bloggers from all over the world are reading and appreciating your blogs. You become part of a larger family who share a common interest.

As for trips, you set the beginning date on our just prior to the first blog in the series of blogs for that trip. Then set the ending date on or after the date of the last blog for that trip. I note that you haven't written any blogs yet. Let me know if you need help on that.

As for the Entry Dates for your blogs, don't go with the date you write the blog, but enter the date for which the blog applies. Likewise for the location. If you enter Rome and the blog is about Paris, whenever another blogger searches for information about Rome, they will get blogs and pictures about Paris...not helpful.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Reply to this

In response to: Msg #190667 hi and thank you for your speedy and helpful reply! If you don't mind talking me through the procedure, from the beginning, regarding starting a blog please. Plus.... What's the difference between a blog and a trip!? Reply to this

A blog is what you write about a day or more on a trip. A trip is a collection of blogs written about that trip. You don't have to list trips...this only helps direct someone to the collection of blogs which are listed under each trip.

What you want to do is start writing blogs. To do so, when you sign on you will first see your Control Panel page. The menu across the top lists Control Panel, Blogs, Profile and Setting, Social, and Utilities.
Click on Blogs and then Add Blog Post.

To create a blog you need to fill in this form with the Blog Title, Entry Date (use the date when the events being described in your blog occurred), Privacy (keep Public if at all possible), Continent/Country/Region/City, then in the box below write your blog. Once written click Save.

Then you can move on to Photos...the tab next to Add Text at the top. I never add videos or maps, but you can. Review is used to look at your results before you click on the Publish button.

To add photos, click on that tab. At the bottom of the Upload Photos section click on the Add Files button. Then go to your picture files on your computer and double click on each picture you want to add. Once you've listed the pictures, then click on Start Upload...this will take a few seconds or minutes depending upon the number of files being uploaded. Once they are uploaded the pictures will show up in the next section. You can rotate, add captions, or delete pictures by clicking on the icons at the corners of each picture. Once you are done with the photo edits, you click on Review on the menu at the top. This will show the first page of your saved blog. Once you are satisfied with the blog, click on Publish.

If you want to come back and edit a blog at any time, even after it is Published, go to the Blog on the menu at the top, and click on List Entries. All your blogs are listed with buttons on the left side of each for editing Text and Photos etc.. Click on whatever you want to edit and then make the changes; then click on Save or Review.

You probably should read other's blogs to get an idea of what others will see of your blogs. You can see mine by clicking on my name or picture in the circle of this response.

Got to go now, but I will be back to describe the bloggers page which is what you see when you click on my circle or the Travelblog icon at the top left corner of the Profile Page.

But before we leave your Profile Page, let's look at some other things beyond adding and editing blogs and pictures.

It is divided into sections for Account Information, with links to your blog entries, both Saved and Published can be accessed, where you can read and accept or reject comments on your blogs, and where you can access Private Messages; Recently Active Forums and Recently Active Topics in which you have participated; Site News; and Mini Feed, which is where the blogs and comments, etc. of those you Follow show up.

Go to Profile and Settings at the top of the page. You've already accessed this as you have entered a picture of yourselves and the blog name. You haven't entered anything under Biography. I invite you to do so. Fellow bloggers are interested in getting to know you...like where you are from and why you are interested in travel.

Now for the Blog page, which is what the public sees when they click on your circle picture of blog name. This is where they can read your Profile. It doesn't have to be long like mine.

At the top of the right column you will see:
Comment - I never use this as my comments are made at the bottom of blogs I read
Follow - click on this to Follow another blogger. Any blogs they publish will show up under Mini Feed on your Profile page
Message - use this to send a private message to the blogger.

Wow! Hopefully, thanks to your excellent instructions for dummies, I think i've just posted a blog! I hope i've updated our profile page as well.
If i want to give the details to certain people to read, like Bob's dad, what do I get him to put in the search engine?
Getting excited about further blogging....I can understand how this can become addictive! Reply to this

In response to: Msg #190680 Yes, you have published your first blog...with pictures! and a very well written one at that!

And you have your first Followers. However, Luminousattractions is likely a spammer, promoting vacations. One of my jobs as a Moderator is to delete spammers, but sometimes it's hard to stay ahead of them. You can delete Followers on your Control Panel page, by clicking on Social and then Followers, and then clicking on the star in the upper left hand corner of their picture. If you want to Follow another Travelblogger just click on the Follows button at the top right on that bloggers page. You can go to mine by clicking on my name or picture in the upper left corner of this response...just showing you how to navigate...you don't have to Follow me unless you want to.

By the way, there are many Travelbloggers who travel in their mobile homes or RVs. Among them are:
JenGog, On The Road Once More, and Grey haired nomads.

And finally to answer your question, if you want non-Travelbloggers to be notified when you publish a blog, you can again go to Social and Manage Subscribers, and on that page add the email addresses of everyone you want notified. Reply to this

Hello guest915! Welcome. I'm also relatively new myself, but am getting to grips with this site and am really loving writing - I can't wait to do more of it! I look forward to seeing your updated profile and your first blog when you get a chance to upload it. Let me know when it is done and I will read it 😊 Reply to this

In response to: Msg #190997 In response to: Msg #191293 Kayleigh, although you are new to TB you've given guest915 some good advice. I'm a Moderator and one of my jobs is to Accept New bloggers as Bloggers. However, about 90%!o(MISSING)f New bloggers are spammers. So until the blogger gives us more information to make a determination that they are not spammers, like adding a Profile and a blog about a trip, I and the other Moderators keep them in the New category, with limited ability to access the various capabilities that TB provides. I hope guest915 provides such input at which time the welcome will be forthcoming!
