I thought I'd pass this on for anyone (or if you know of anyone) getting a passport in the near future in the Canada (Alberta) region.
The rumors you've heard of the 3 hour wait are true.

Current wait time if you drop it off in person - 20 working days and then it gets mailed to your house by registered mail.
If you are travelling within 20 working days, you need to apply and then pick it up in person. You need to supply proof of travel (ie. itinerary)

I arrived at about 6:15am this morning and I was already the 40th person in line.
If you arrived at about 7:30 - you were maybe the 100th person.
If you arrive at 9:30 - you're probably about 200-300 people behind.
If you arrive after 1pm, you have a slim chance that you will get in that day and your wait number isn't really good for the next day.

If you can do the electronic version, print it out and get your guarentor to sign it, it'll speed thingfs up a lot and you'll get in a lot faster than the people in front/behind you with paper copies. Good luck logging in though.

Make sure your pictures arn't shiny. I heard a horror story in line of someone who braved the 4 hour line just to be told that his kid's pictures weren't acceptable as they were too shiny. I think he had to wait at the back of the line after he fixed the problem. Reply to this
