Hey all, hope all is is well wherever u are in this illustrious world we live in! It's a bit early, but I'm deciding on my next summer 4-5 month backpacking trip and would love some opinions on which trip I should choose...if you've been there feel free to attach the link to ur blogs for the places mentioned or drop an opinion if you'd like.

I've narrowed it down to a few trips....thanks everyone in advance for contributing!

1. India and Sri Lanka
2. Brazil/Colombia/Venezuela/Ecuador
3. Jordan/Morocco/Egypt/Namibia/Tanzania
4. Philippines/Indonesia/Malaysia/China/Japan
5. Eastern Europe/Balkans Reply to this

I wasn't terribly impressed with the little bit of Jordan I've visited, other than Petra. (See my blogs "Blame it on Peter O'Toole" and Petra and the Unexpected Adventure." Israel, a short border crossing away, is much better fun. Keep in mind that Jordan, Egypt, Israel, et all are going to be HOT in the summer. If it were my trip, I'd do Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Turkey. There is enough to see and do to keep you busy for four months.

Malaysia and Indonesia are so close to the equator that they are hot and humid all the time. Check out the rainy season before you go - backpacking in the rain isn't much fun. Reply to this

If I knew Portuguese and Spanish I would choose 2.

As I don't I would choose 4. I am a sucker for paradise beaches (Philippines), amazing scenery (Indonesia), great food (Malaysia) and I'm sure China and Japan will have their charms too. Japan in May is supposed to be the best time so you can experience the blossom on the trees. Reply to this

Hi Karen thanks for the insight and experience you mentioned. Actually I was just offered a new contract in turkey for 6 months so I will probably be able to do Jordan and Egypt quite easily so I should probably scratch those from the list. In response to: Msg #187041 Reply to this

Hi bucket lister, thanks so much for the feedback! Actually I do speak Spanish and have been to Colombia several times before as it's my favorite country I have been to, but it still haven't seen all of it yet so I wanted to fold that into a 3-4 month adventure down the amazon from Ecuador to Manaus, Brazil up the back way into Venezuela to get to Angel Falls.
