Reply to this Peter Moore wrote a book http://www.petermoore.net/wwh/wwh.htm The Wrong Way Home where he travelled over land from London to Sydney. Could be what you're looking for. I enjoyed the book, an easy and entertaining read.

London to Sydney in 12 weeks for £3750.
I read Peter Moore's book-provides a good idea of what to expect. I also lately enjoyed 'Bad Karma' Tamara Sheward, which is about travel in south-Asia, very funny, though a bit of a girls book!
