ATM in Malaysia

Using an ATM card from a US credit union.
5 years ago, October 6th 2013 No: 1 Msg: #175865
I have an ATM card from my local credit union here in the US. It does NOT have an electronic chip, and it uses a four digit PIN. It carries the logos of the Cirrus, Star, Co-op and Armed Forces Financial Networks.

Since it is issued by a credit union, not a bank, they have no branches outside of San Diego county. My credit union cannot tell me if I can use it at an ATM outside the US, and they cannot tell me if any particular bank is part of their ATM network, just to look for the logo of one of the accepted networks.

Can I use this card at an ATM in Malaysia? I will be in Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown, Penang.

Cirrus with pin number has worked for me in Malaysia on an Australian bank card so I would say yes but best check with your bank incase. Reply to this

Thanks, Cindy. Do you have a four digit or six digit PIN on your ATM card?

Sadly, my credit union is unable to answer my questions about using my ATM card outside the US>

Four digit pin Karen, you may also want to think about a prepaid travel cash card as a backup. Reply to this
