wassup fellow travelers... I'm off to London the beginning of September, was wondering if there was any recommended places to see a concert (small intimate venues with upcoming acts preferred)
also places to buy some music and suggestions on some bands to try out.
we're staying at the Strand Palace (http://www.strandpalacehotel.co.uk/explore-with-us/location/)
Reply to this I often check out sisterray in Soho when I head down to the mean streets of central London. If you like Vinyl then there is a place called Vinylmasters in the same area. But London is so big it’s viable that you will stumble across an amazing music shop down some back alley somewhere that you will never find again. There’s probably also not as many as there used to be because of downloads now taking up pole position in the music industry.
As for gigs, well you've come to the right place, I don't know who’s' about at the moment but if someone has a new album out then you’re pretty much guaranteed that they will be playing London at some point. But like with stumbling across random music shops I have on a number of occasions turned up at a random bar and discovered some great unknown bands, one that springs to mind is 3hostwomexicansandatinofspanners. Sadly no longer together. It's of course hit and miss though as I've seen some terrible acts, this being the charm of the London music scene. However, Camden Town wouldn't be such a bad place to start.
