Bazaars, markets and souks are some of the most interesting and colourful places in any country. Let's see some photos of them.

Sometimes, those markets are not all about food, clothes, jewelry and souvenirs.

Slight tangent, but something you often see in Korea (and other parts of Asia) at outside markets set on the ground:

I remember how impressed I was at how long some of these halmonis (grandmothers) could kimchi-squat next to their produce and wares.

Kimchi-squat = Squatting flat on your feet with your butt touching the back of your calves without sitting your butt on the ground. Very hard to do if you're not used to it!

The woman in the rose jacket is a perfect example. Her butt is not seated on the ground and her feet are perfectly flat on the ground. Give it a try and you may marvel at how she could do this for hours.

Manila's Chinatown is touted to be the oldest in the world (outside of China , of course) and the area is a veritable open air street market where one buys fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc.

I could spend my life just walking around markets, observing. They're fascinating, revealing and colourful - as all the photos that are now emerging from blogs past and present will confirm. Reply to this
