Hi there- I'm heading to Colombia for 3 weeks in July. I'd like to spend my long bus rides on overnight busses to not waste any days there. Do you know if there are overnight busses and how safe they are? Also, any iteneraries you might suggest for 3 weeks there would rock. I love beachs, diving and hiking so that's what I want to focus most of my trip on. Thanks!
Reply to this I've moved your topic to the South American forum, which is more on-topic for Columbia.
Reply to this Hi Kari,
yes, Colombia is rather safe and we felt no danger whatsoever when we visited this year:-) I would have no hesitation to take a night bus as we even took one through a 'dangerous' Choco district and it was fine:-)There is plenty of police guarding roads all the time.
Please remember that it is a rather large country so 3 weeks is not so much - better to see some places thoroughly then just touch on stuff. If you like hiking you should definitely check out Valley De Cocora in Zona Cafeteria where you can do 8h trek in the beautiful National Park and stay at a coffee plantation. For sun and beach you can visit remote Capurgana (border with Panama, great diving) or more touristy Santa Marta and Tyrona National Park.
You need to visit Cartagena - the most beautiful town we have ever seen, really:-) Check our blogs to see where we have been and maybe you decide on something else.
