places to see in Mytilene?
11 years ago, April 18th 2013 No: 1 Msg: #169334
Hello , I'm going to visit Mytilene in June with my husband and a friendly couple. We will be staying in villa Isabell , <snip> for 5 days.

I would like information about which places are the best to visit , since we would prefer to avoid the crowd. Also, how is the weather going to be?I hope it won't be rainy!!!

Thank you
Jessica

Hi, Mytilini is a very nice island, there isn't a lot of tourism on this island, so it is perfect if you prefer to explore a "real" place. The weather in June will most probably be very good, not too hot but sunny and warm. Rain isn't common at that time of the year. The most amazing place in Mytilini is the petrified forest, there is a visitors center with a museum and also an open "park" with petrified trees. Don't miss this, these are unique things to see (northwest part of the island close to Sigri). If you are interested in birds there are flamingoes (and other birds) in the salt pans close to Kalloni, best to bring binoculars but you can see them without binoculars too. The town of Mytilini is nice too. The coast road between Molivos and Sikaminea has some stunning scenery, though there are many beautiful areas as the island is mountainous and partly forested. There are also many pretty villages to visit, Antissa is one of them. There are a number of monasteries and churches which can be interesting. You definitely need a car because the island is big, and it would probably be difficult to get around on buses. Five days won't be enough to see the whole island. There is a boat going to the town of Ayvalik in Turkey every day, which makes for an interesting contrast if you have the time to spare. Reply to this
