I posted on hear in December to discuss going traveling and whether the time was right as i didn't know if i was ready. Several People suggested that i go, give a try and see what i think. In the end i decided to got to Berlin for a short break and really enjoyed it.

Anyway, as you all know and maybe some of you care next year is the world cup in Brazil, the spiritual home of football. I have made the decision that i want this to be my first big Trip lasting a month (the duration of the competition) and i'm looking at staying in Rio De Janiro, Copacabana area. It looks amazing but as many of you will be aware it has a bit of a reputation for crime.

Basically i'm just wondering what peoples opinions and experiences have been in this area. I'l be traveling with three other males all mid twenties, and been a world event id imagine busy with tourists all the time.

I'l be out during the day and at night within my group any info would be great. Thanks Reply to this

Hi Ashley,

I haven't been to Rio myself, but I have a friend who has and she loved it.

I'd say the very point you raise will be in the minds of the event organisers, and they will be wanting to reassure tourists that their city is safe.

Of course, common sense should never be left at home though. Reply to this

Hi Jo,

Yeah this is my main thought to be honest, the country will be out to impress on the world stage.

As you say usual precautions will be taken with not having expensive things on me and only carrying small amounts of money.

The area itself looks beautiful. Reply to this

Rio definitely a beautiful place and lots of things to do .. caution must be exercised though since I had my pals robbed twice for wondering around in the wrong areas. Anyone with minimal knowledge of the city knows where not to go
