i am looking to get from siem reap in to bangkok and wondered which was the best way to do it? i have read a lot of conflicting information on the internet regarding new bus routes but no-one seems to know how or where to get them from. i would be happy to get the bus to poipet and get the train like i did on the way here however all i can find is taxi services which cost a fortune.
any information that may help would be greatly appreciated, no matter which way you suggest i go!
thanks!
Reply to this I too have heard different stories, but nothing confirmed. Would love to know from any travellers who have recently taken this route.
I'll highlight the thread so it appears on the front page, this is a topic that will interest many, as that question was asked elsewhere on the forums on a week ago.
Reply to this ah thank you!
there are a lot of bus companies doing this, however, you hear of a lot of scams!
Reply to this If the bus route is feasible I'd rely on the recommendation from the hotel/hostel you are staying at. If you are happy with the hotel/hostel, it is likely you'll be happy with their transport recommendation.
Reply to this That is a good shout! Thanks for the advice! Illlook into that tonight

Reply to this Hey Shane / John 😊
from Siem Reap to Bangkok we took the bus - bus ticket was reserved by our guesthouse (Bou Savy Guesthouse) which was 8USD/Person including mini-van transfer from Cambodia/Thailand Border to Bangkok...this was 2011 so i'm expecting it will be more expensive now
Reply to this TinNie, how long did the bus journey take, and what was the condition of the road?
Reply to this our travel was about 9 hours (with bad traffic arriving in Bangkok) :
• 08:00AM – Depart from Siem Reap on abus
• 11:00PM – Arrived at Poipet, Cambodia (Cambodia/Thailand border). Visa processing, crossed to Aranyaprathet District, Thailand (Cambodia/Thailand border).
• 12:00PM –Transferred from bus to mini-van bound for Bangkok.
• 12:30PM – Lunch stop somewhere.
• 05:30PM – Arrived at Bangkok, Khao San Road.
...the road was surprisingly okay! a little dirt road and construction on the cambodian side but nonetheless it wasn't as bad as i was expecting (hearing all those horror stories prior to our trip). the sleeper bus might be faster...we didn't had much problem during the trip, i guess just make sure that all requirements are ready for the border crossing to make the transfer process faster. we've heard about all those bribing incidents while crossing borders but we actually didn't experience any of those...we crossed 2 borders on bus Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand and it always went smoothly we were so surprised!
