Hi, I am interested in a 12 month working holiday visa for Japan. It says on the internet that you have to apply via a personal interview at the Japanese embassy etc. and sounds a bit tricky!
Has anyone here got one of these before, and could you point me towards any useful info regarding getting one?
Also, how much Japanese do you have to be able to speak?!
Thanks for your help, Adam.
Reply to this Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am from the UK!!
Reply to this Hi, I and many many other people have got working holiday visas, there is no Japanese language requirement and it isn't really tricky! They usually require proof of funds, about US$2,000 worth of traveller's cheques for example (which you can borrow the money for temporarily like I did), a cover letter saying why you want to go to Japan- just write whatever you think they want to hear, an outline of your proposed itinerary (they won't be checking up on you, you can just fabricate it) and of course the application forms.
I doubt very much that you will have to apply in person, the Embassy in London isn't going to insist that people from Scotland for example travel down to London! The embassy is one of your sources of information- phone them, if you haven't already. There may also be a consulate nearer to you than the embassy, depending on where you live.
Also check out www.japan-guide.com- loads of info about WH visas and Japan in general there.
Reply to this VISA IS NOT REQUIRED FOR A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED KINGDOM IF HIS/HER STAY IN JAPAN DOESN'T EXCEED 180 DAYS!!!!!The following documents must be submitted whatever the purpose of visit you are going to make:valid passport, two passport photos taken within the six months previous to the date of application, two official visa application forms, available at the embassy or consulate, documents certifying the purpose of the visit
