Photographer - Backpackermatt: "....I quit both of my jobs, moved out of my apartment, packed anything I could fit into my car, and three weeks later I hit the road.... I haven't stopped travelling since."
Having spent my whole life in Brisbane without so much as a week off work - much less an actual holiday - in six-and-a-half years, I suddenly decided (on my 27th birthday) that I'd had enough and needed to get a life. So I quit both of my jobs, moved out of my apartment, packed anything I could fit into my car, and three weeks later I hit the road. Over a thousand kilometres later I ended up in a tiny little town that I had heard about from a friend, with only one street, a few pubs, a few backpacker hostels and a beach. That day was the 1st of June, 2006... I haven't stopped travelling since.... full info

Thanks very much for nominating my photograph guys! It's pretty hard not to take great pictures in the Rockies - even with the crappy $60 Canon camera that I have been using ever since I smashed my previous camera after a few too many beers in Tenerife at the start of summer!
That picture wouldn't have even been taken though if I hadn't taken a wrong turn whilst following the 'Valley of Five Lakes' trail (about 10kms south of Jasper) and ended up having to hack my way through the bush along an overgrown hiking trail... with my bicycle and bags in tow!
So when I caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a slight clearing beside the lake I figured that at the very least it would give me a chance to have a rest and a drink of water... the view and the picture that came with it were a bonus! I must have seen reflections like that in at least a dozen lakes around Jasper - it really is a stunning part of the world.
Congratulations Matt, I really liked this picture. What a great story of how you found it. Enjoy the rest of your travels and keep the pictures coming.
