Hey guys,
I'm here in Australia for a few months staying in sydney. It's my first time here and I've seen the touristy stuff around sydney but i want to see more of this beautiful country. I'm also interested of seeing some of the outback.
Any Aussie nomads here who can give me insight on some of the must-see places?
Thanks
Amber

I am in Brisbane, and was born in Australia. Personally, I think the best sights are away from the cities. These include Kakadu, Katherine Gorge and Uluru in the Northern Territory - but you will need to head there soon because once October has passed, the rainy/hot season starts and it will not be the best place to visit.
Western Australia is also perfect for people who love nature, and I particularly loved Broome, Monkey Mia (with dolphins), Hammersley Ranges and the Kimberley Ranges. The large forests south of Perth are also delightful.
Here in Queensland, the number one attraction is the Great Barrier Reef, but I really liked places around the Atherton Tablelands (including the Daintree) near Cairns and Carnarvon Gorge inland from Rockhampton. Again, the closer to summer, the less welcoming these places become due to humidity or heat.
In Southern Australia, I really love the Great Ocean Road and Port Campbell National Park south-west of Melbourne, and Philip Island south-east of Melbourne - the latter famous for the nightly penguin parade.
Reply to this If you make it as far as Tasmania my top recommendations would be;
- the east coast, particularly Freycinet National Park. The view from the top of Mt Amos is definitely worth the climb, and Wineglass Bay is beautiful close up as well.
- Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park (central Tasmania).
Recommend getting a hire car as public transport isn't the most conducive to getting to the out of the way places.
Reply to this I think greyhound buses have a 1 month pass that goes up and down the east coast so probably worth jumping on something like that and taking your time going up and down the coast. You can stay in little country towns or visit the bigger cities and chekc out the different types of people for each location.
I am in Perth and am always surprised by the difference in people, houses, restaraunts and general feel between city and country areas. My favourite places in Australia would definitly be Melbourne as a city (sports, theatre, restaraunts, architecture etc) or Coral Bay/Ningaloo Reef in northern Western Australia where you are cut off from everywhere and you have a coral reef literally at your feet.
