Looks like I have an akward flight situation coming up. Im going to Peru next month, and my plane lands in Lima at 10:15pm and leaves for Cuzco at 5am. That means 6ish hours sleeping at the airport. If it were day time I'd usually venture out of the airport, but dont think thats a good idea in Lima at that late hour. I've slept at an airport before in Sydney Australia, we ended up being moved to a fairly quiet area near the airport's basement with soft chairs to spread our legs on and try to sleep, some other back packers were there also. But there's no guarentee I'll find such a secluded location in the Lima airport, maybe end up resting my head on my back pack on the floor. Any suggestions for overnight stay at an airport? Anyone had a similar experience in Peru or anywhere else and have tips? Thanks guys!
Reply to this Hello Jennifer and welcome to the Forum!
There is a site that specialises in this sort of information:
Sleeping in Airports
We usually don't allow links to be dropped on the forums, but this one does not appear to be a blatant commercial operator (they don't directly sell anything), plus it is the only resource I'm aware of on the web that compiles this information.
Reply to this Great website resource! Just started reading it and I find it quite humerous with all the silly pictures, but it's actually spot on. I dread having to do this again, but for sure will not be complaining as I love to travel so it is really worth it. Thanks!
Reply to this Glad you liked it! Some of the reviews are very witty. I avoid sleeping at airports at all costs (along with long-haul overnight flights), instead opting for airport hotels (both inside the terminal or adjacent). However, I've only found that feasible in Asia.
Reply to this There are a lot of flights leaving in the middle of the night from Lima. As you have time, don't rush through immigration, you could be out by only 11.30pm. Check-in should be open by 3pm. I doubt you'll have any sleep with the crowd in the airport...but you will not feel lonely for sure....just watch your stuffs! And enjoy Cuzco!
Reply to this Thank you! I think I just have to be realistic about the Lima airport and face the fact that it'll be too busy and noisy for a nice rest. Nothing a coffee and a nice power nap in Cuzco won't cure though!
Reply to this Don't forget you may simply need to take it relax while arriving in Cuzco....went there twice...the first time, had had few flights over the last few days...and big night drinking before taking a 7am flight to Cuzco...20 minutes after landing...it hit me...well...a nice red wine for lunch did help!
You are going to love the place, don't forget to eat some truchas! My next visit is in Feb, bringing my two kids...
Reply to this Hi, i cant help with peru, but Shane that is a hillarious website! I cant believe people are looking to stay in airports for 3 weeks at a time then complain as there is maintenance happenning at the airport at night so they cant get sleep. Funny stuff!
But... i have used the lounges you can pay for in hong kong and singapore as we used to have some awful (12 hour at least) layovers between flights from US to Australia. It used to be good to have a little sleep, a shower and unlimited food and tv/magazines than wandering around an airport.

Reply to this Hi Jennifer,
I did the very same overnight stay at the airport in Lima before an early flight to Cuzco.
As a light sleeper I didn't get much sleep, but as PA said, you definitely won't be lonely.
Ignore all the taxi touts and keep waling straight ahead to the escalators on the left heading up to the departure area. There's a space to the right up there where people try and sleep on the floor, and also an internet cafe. Further round is a food court which is cleaned in sections overnight.
Always plenty of people around, and no problems with security - though obviously don't be complacent with your belongings.
*I was there in 2006, so things may or may not have changed.
Reply to this Where are you heading to while in Peru? Cusco is a great place to do some easy sightseeing while you adjust to the altitude.
