Travelling with 4 month baby and toddler

Does anyone have any experience of travelling with a toddler and 4 month baby in any of the following countries: Sri Lanka, India, Ecuador (Galapagos Islands), Venezuela or any other interesting countries?

If yes what are your experiences, good or bad? Thinking about a month long trip as a family and want to make the most of our time!

Thank you in advance for any replies. Reply to this

Hi

There have been several discussions on this topic in the past e.g.

Travelling alone with a young child . This one links to many of the other bloggers who are or have travelling with young children.

Hope this helps you!

Hi, we travel a lot with our kids of a similar age difference to you although the youngest is now 18mths and the oldest is 4.5. We've mostly been to south east asia (thailand, indo, malaysia, singapore, hong kong, macau, china) outside of australian trips with the longest flight being 10 hours - that went very badly so we're only about to attempt it again (after a 2 yr break from that destination 😊 ).

We do cheat and have been slowly getting for nicer and nicer hotels...and also now we always get a suite/apartment or 2 bedrooms of some sort. We have found we just NEED some sleep and a break and 4 of us in one room wont make any of us have a nice trip.

If youre breastfeeding that is a fantastic and very easy time to accomodate a 4mth old. For sterilisation i would just boil bottled water and you can put bottles/dummies in a glass of boiling water. In asia at least nappies are cheaper than australia so no issues there and just make sure your toddler likes rice and chicken and you'll be set on nearly any dish in at least the asian countries. And just eat cooked food at all times or peel fruit yourself. To be honest though we dont do much on our trips these days (kids would never last in a temple or on an island trip etc) or make the kids travel in long boring timeframes so we would break a journey over a few days so its more relaxing and we can see more of local places, relax in pools or on beaches and eat lots of local food.

A small word of warning though is in alot of asian countries people will want to look after your kids and play with them etc which seems fantastic however at 7 months old we travelled to penang and surrounds and our little man picked up a disease no longer found in australia and ended up in an induced coma and a ventilator for over a week... very scary stuff. So we dont let them hold our bubs anymore, the can play with them but just be very aware of diseases you wont have an immunity too.

We love travelling and the kids have really taken to it so hopefully you find the same. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions or even what your plans are. tam Reply to this

ok take II...just read some of your blogs and youre already travelling 😊 With 2 we have found we split them...we tend to carry one each on each of our shoulders. I think we could get away with 1 room with 1 but now we always get 2 rooms as mentioned and to look for places with pools that have toddler areas or edges that slowly get deeper so youre not always 'holding' the children. Family friendly hotels are good aswell so that toddlers can run around a bit while you eat breakfast and people dont freak.
And i think the best thing has been 'busy' cities as they always keep kids entertained just with noise and people and statues etc
