You may or may not recognize him from the Brazilian film "City of God" (aka Cidade de Deus). I'm a big fan of Brazilian music -- bosso nova, samba, and so much more -- learning how to do the samba must be somewhere on my bucket list. Hope you enjoy:

Great choice Michelle,

The beauty of the voice...no need to understand the words...great to hear music that is new...to me. Reply to this

Wonderful song Michelle :D

I'd have to agree...although I feel Latin Jazz rocks most of all.

Cal Tjader was an American vibraphone player of Swedish ancestry who has some of the most chilled out tunes ever created in his musical repertoire.

Dave, I remember you mentioning that you have a jazz collection, too.

Any recs from you guys?

Sorry Michelle,

The dancing one...no-like-jazz.

I have an extensive "Blues Music" collection...like heaps...but "jazz"...shudder the thought...still shaking at the suggestion.

Sorry...give me real music...with groove...with vibe...with rhythm...never heard of anyone dancing to jazz.

I'd better stop before I get carried away...!!! Reply to this

Hahaha. I'm so sorry Dave. I didn't mean to give any insult. I retract my statement and reinsert it with "Blues".

I must confess though, I would love to be educated more on both the Blues and Jazz because I don't know much about either. Afterward, I'll draw my conclusions. 😊 Reply to this

Dave has bailed, so I suppose that leaves it to me to enlighten you in the ways of Jazz Michelle.

Sorry, but for me Jazz IS music. I seem to have grown into over the past 5 years or so and now it has firmly taken hold of me. Don't get me wrong, I don't like all kinds; there certainly are some weird varieties out there.

Who knows, we might even convince the Dancing one to listen to more Jazz 😉

Lesson 1:

Let's start with 2 veritable Gods of Jazz, Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck and two tunes you have no doubt heard several times before 'Round Midnight and Take Five'. Miles Davis has played some crazy jazz in the past, some of it really difficult to listen to and appreciate. That is the kind of Jazz that I believe Dave is talking about. Anyway, enjoy 😊

Here is a British comedy show parody of typical free or avant-garde jazz and this is the kind that I really don't like 😊

Haha simply brilliant.... My friends and I once went to Jazz bar in Notting Hill, and it was totally filled with this wanky shite and the idiots that love it! And to make matter worse I ordered 3 drinks, handed over £20 and it wasn't enough!!!! £24 for 3 drinks, WTF?????

I'm concerned where this thread is going...nice Brazilian highjacked by...how did Michael put it...that's right..."wanky shite".

I'm so concerned I'm starting a World Blues Music Forum...check it out...preferably World Music to avoid western genres...but...

Is it wrong that I'm laughing each time I read this thread?

Cal Tjader and Dave Brubeck--I could see some fancy footwork mixing with those.

Don't worry Dave, there's definitely no dancing to Miles Davis, so I haven't been completely swayed to the dark side. Perhaps a Blues thread will be a good balance. As for world music, I think somebody noted in the other forum defining "world music" as, yeah, I'm pretty sure, something about jazz? 😊

Now, to return things back to the Brazilian scene, a bossa nova classic:

In my attempts to placate the 'Dancing One' my jazz theme will continue along the line of Brazilian artists.....for now 😉

Girl from Ipanema is admittedly a classic, but have you ever heard any tracks from one of Stan Getz's solo sessions...? It's amazing stuff.

Here endeth the second lesson 😊
