Almost every day for the past two weeks I have looked at this and wanted to answer. I am fortunate enough to have done many of the things on our bucket list.
Any yet, the list of things we would still like to do is long. I think my reluctance to answer this is that I will forget something important.

We love train travel so we want to travel on The Orient Express, The trans-siberian railway, the train through Copper Canyon in Mexico, the train across Canada and take the train from Darwin to Adelaide in Australian. We are fortunate enough that we have already taken the train from Sydney to Perth and it was a wonderful experience.

There are a lot of places we want to go an see animals to include- to Canada and or Norway to see the Polar Bears, Africa to see a variety of animals-- not limited to the big 5 and the gorillas, to the Galapagos to experience all that Darwin talked about.

I've slept in a Yurt in Wyoming and now would like to do it in Mongolia.

I'm a water person and love islands. My dream is to dive many of the islands in and around Micronesia.

I want a Swedish massage in Sweden.
I want to eat sushi in Japan.

This is a small sample. We will give it some more thought and be back.
What a tough question.

Oh wow I already have one of these wish lists written down and it is constantly being lengthened!! Like Stephanie and Andras' original list mine includes all sorts of things I want to do in life, but I'd say about 70% of them are related to travel! The list is ever-growing, even with ticking a few things off in the last few years, but here are some of my biggest wishes:

- Live in another country for a year (I did 11 months in Oz, followed by 5 in NZ so I could tick this off, but I just want to live in more countries now!)
- Cycle from Lisbon to Istanbul i.e. the width of Europe
- Climb the three peaks in the UK (Not in the crazy 24 hour way though, I've done Snowdon so 2 to go)
- Ride the Trans-Mongolian train and go to the Naadam festival in Mongolia
- Picnic under the cherry blossom in Japan
- See the Northern Lights and cross-country ski in Scandanavia
- see Polar Bears, Gorillas, Flamingos, and tigers in the wild (Ticked off Flamingos and Gorillas in 2010!)
- Go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
- Go Tramping in New Zealand (did the Milford Track in January but again would love to do more!)
- Eat steak in Argentina, sushi in Japan and fish tacos in Mexico
- Climb Kilimanjaro before the glaciers melt
- Visit all the main islands around the UK
- Walk the South West Coast Path in the UK
- Cycle or take a bus over the Karakorum Highway
- See shows at the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House and on Broadway (saw opera in Sydney the other week so that's one tick!)
- Try absinthe in a bohemian suburb of a European city
- Drink tea in a tea house in Riga
- Visit the Ethiopian tribes of the Omo Valley
- Go to Cuba before it becomes too Americanised
- Stand on the Equator (did this in Kenya and Uganda)
- Visit all the continents of the world (still need to go to South America and Antarctica to tick this one off)
- Swim with turtles (swam with one in Western Australia but really want to swim with lots, probably somewhere in SE Asia from what I've heard from other people who've done it)
- Snorkel with Whale Sharks (I did this in Exmouth, Western Australia for anyone else wanting to do it, it was amazing!)
....

It's interesting to see many similar things on everyone's lists, and also to see I am fulfilling many of my wishes - so for anyone thinking these are only dreams, they can come true if you want them to! Reply to this

Oh what an awesome thread.. so many things to do in one short lifetime.

Like many on here we were lucky enough to do quite a lot of once in a lifetime experiences on our last trip... skydiving over the glaciers in New Zealand, trekking the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu, snorkeling with turtles & manta rays and seeing the Komodo Dragons all spring to mind but there are always things that are still on the list... life would be a it dull if you'd done it all already! 😊

- Swim with Whale Sharks - Dale not Sophie - hopefully he'll get to do that next year
- Visit the pyramids in Egypt
- See Everest
- Fly first class to see how the other half live!
- Stay in the Ice Hotel & see the Northern Lights
- Trek to see Gorillas in Uganda
- Go on sarafi
- Go to the Burning Man Festival and hire a HUGE winnabego for us and all our friends
- Take a trip to see the polar bears in Canada
- Fly in a helicopter over Antartica - we saw a little movie of it at the Antartic Centre in Christchurch and it looked immense (which of course it is!)
- Relax in the salt in the dead sea
- Easter Island
- View the unique wildlife in the Galapagos Islands
- Ride a Harley Davidson along a Calafornian coastal road
- Witness an erupting volcano.. from a distance!

There are heaps more we think of every day so we'll pop back with more to add as and when we think of them!

Here's to crossing off a few of the above in the not too distant future! Reply to this

Sophie, how come you don't want to swim with whale sharks?... they don't bite!! 😊 every time I'm in the water I pray for one to show up, but so far haven't been lucky!

I have to say that the list I wrote is actually mine, not Dax's... he would love to do most of the things in my list as well, but I know in his there are things like:

-Ride a Triumph motorbike from India to London
-Drive through Africa in a motorbike (in fact, every time we talk about driving through Africa he wants me to go in the car with all the stuff and he will follow me on his motorbike)

...he likes motorbikes, in case I haven't made it clear! 😱

Danica, the trans-Mongolian is special because is an epic train journey!... it covers thousands of miles in many days... you definitely need to like trains, as you'll be inside one (if you do the trip in one go) for days and days!!

but you can also do it in stages and stop along the way which it would be the way I'd like to do it 😊 Reply to this

Deni I have a fear of the ocean and all that lurks in it.. especially big things the size of whale sharks! 😊 I can overcome my fear if I swim in reefs and can see the bottom and only if Dale is next to me but I could never swim where I can't see the bottom... who knows what lives down there!

I'll be the one taking the photos on that trip! Reply to this

Sophie...I love your remark about seeing the bottom....you are not the only one in that....I couldn't bungy jumping...way to afraid of the high! But I have no problem with skydiving (did it twice)...as the ground seems way too far away to be concerned...

Do you hold Dale hand when you swim in the sea....that's another lovely comment!

Whalesharks are our friends...but you won't know it till you experience it...trust Liliram...I think she love them now! Reply to this

Sophie, I can totally relate to that, I was exactly the same, very scared to what was in the water... but actually doing scuba diving kind of 'cured' me of (most of) my fears... I'm still scared of great whites, though... but the chances of encountering one are very remote! ;o) Reply to this

The advantage of scuba diving is you can see what is in the water with you and you'll find your imagination was much worse.

There are so many lovely corals and fish. Rarely seen anything that would make you nervous.

I totally agree Merry Jo! I was more scared of the things I imagined being underwater, now that I dive I enjoy much more being in the sea, whether is underwater or just on the surface Reply to this
