Luggage / Connecting Flights

During a stop over on a connecting flight is it possible to collect your luggage?

I have a returning flight from Lima, Peru. I am stopping over in Amsterdam for 3 hours before returning to the UK. The problem being I do not intend to return to the UK and would prefer to use this connecting flight to kick off a trip through Europe. Does anyone know if there is a way of getting my backpack so that this is possible without it being loaded up onto the next plane for the last part of the flight? Reply to this

It should be possible, just tell the check-in person that you wish to stop at Amsterdam and not use the final leg of your journey to the UK. Might be worth calling KLM just to check (I assume it is KLM since you are going via Amsterdam).

If you are not on the plane when it is time to depart for that journey to the UK, your bag will be off-loaded anyway. However, getting it back into your possession at this time will be more frustrating than organising it in advance as my first suggestion. Reply to this

Ask at check-in...but you need to be careful...by not using your last flight, KLM has the right to ask you to pay the price difference in the ticket...as now your ticket would be London-Amesterdam-Lima-Amsterdam.

And as crazy as it would be, this ticket should be more expensive than your original one. If you call KLM, this is waht they should let you know...and you don't want to eard that!

I would try at check-in, but technically, you are depending on the good-will of a check-in agent.

Another way to go around this. I'm meeting a friend from Amsterdam at the airport and have to give him few things that are in my bag, can you check this bag only to AMS and I will re-check myself for the next flight.

Be aware that they are a lot of drug mules out of Lima (Lima jails are full of them), so by doing this, you will automatically attract more attention on you and your bags. Just be aware of it! Reply to this
