We're looking for a traditional Spanish place to go with our 1 year old this Summer and dont know where to start looking!
Hey all, we're looking for some ideas. We want to go to Spain this year for a holiday with our daughter who will be 1 this summer. We're not bothered about the beach and want to avoid British holiday-style resorts so are looking for somewhere quite local/traditional Spanish feeling, close-ish to an airport we can get a cheap flight to from the UK (Manchester). We love buying local food in markets, would like to do a bit of gentle sightseeing, can hire a car and speak enough Spanish to get by anywhere. We're aiming for self-catering, hopefully with a pool. We dont know where to start looking so does anyone know any areas/towns/villages we can look at, or have stayed in something similar they can recommend? Any suggestions welcome! Thanks! C
Reply to this Hi, Costa Brava is very close to Girona for cheap flights. Many beuatiful and interesting places at a short driving distance. There are some really nice villages like Cadaquez on the sea although there are also some resort towns to avoid. You can enjoy spectacular scenery, culture and good food. Check it out!
Reply to this Pyrenees, the beautiful mountain region of Spain is really lovely - you can reach there via Girona too. I saw some nice scenery on my drive into Granada, but not sure what flights head there.
Reply to this If you get a flight to Malaga, drive west to the Costa de la Luz, avoiding the resorts of the Costa del Sol. I've heard that Malaga's old town is lovely, and I'd love to visit Granada for the Moorish architecture (East of Malaga). The Andulucian mountains host a vast range of small towns for accommodation options. You then have the option of visiting Cadiz (which is where I'm currently living and it's a beautiful city) and Seville which will be busy with tourists in the summer. There is so much to see here, food and drink isn't that expensive but beware the 30/40deg heat in the summer months!!
Reply to this If you want to avoid tourists, then go to the North... since that's where I come from, I can't recommend it enough!!!! :o)
It's got a more pleasant temperature than the South, as it doesn't get as hot; lovely beaches (but the Atlantic sea is kinda cold!!), great food and kind people who are not overwhelmed with tourists and they'll be kinder to you as they won't see you as a "walking wallet"... it's also cheaper!!!!
Having said that, it may be more difficult to find people who speaks English outside of the tourist places... but that's part of the experience, right??
If you want somewhere quiet, google "casas turismo rural", which are houses in small villages that are small hotels, and they offer trekking, horse ridding and the such.
I hope this helps!
Reply to this I love Granada. Malaga is also nice and Sevilla is a good bet.
