first of all, i admit i didn't actually read this whole thread.
i also don't spend a lot of time recommending other bloggers (i tend to search topically based on where I am going rather than following where someone else is headed), so I am absolutely okay with getting kicked off the front page.
i deserve it. i am not a good participator. i probably had no business being there in the first place. nevertheless, just for fun, i'd like to weigh in on the new requirements.
i am sure this has been addressed above, but i find the pictures requirement absurd. yes a picture is worth a thousand words and all that, but some things cannot be captured in a picture. or sometimes there is no way to get the picture that encapsulates whatever it is that you are trying to say (for example, if i am writing about the prostitutes at the end of my street or famine victims, I am not going to ask if i can take a picture). although not wholly accurate to say so, pictures push the mean post toward superficiality. i did this and took a picture and then i did that. perhaps that is what travel blog is for - since most people are traveling and taking pictures while they go. fair enough. travel blog has the right to define its own direction and audience.
pictures are fantastic, but sometimes words are all you got.
cheers.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the comments, and you have made some valid points there.
Sometimes words do tell the story better than the photos that speak thousands of words on their own. The main reason for the photo requirement for front page blog entries is to keep the page looking fresh, but also to give established bloggers some exposure.
One more 'recommend' and you'll qualify again on that count, so I'm sure we'll see some of your work back on the front page in the not too distant future.
Reply to this I'd have to agree with Jo.
The front page would look pretty dull if it consisted purely of text and I feel strongly that pictures should remain as part of the requirement.
Anyway, I've just had a look through your blogs and love your sense of humour Colin.
You're now back on the front page 😉
