Just thought I'd share and encourage some others......
After a nerve-racking morning of finding the proper time to pull my manager aside to give notice that I was going to be leaving, I finally muscled up the courage to do so. It went over really well and I think I managed to do it without burning any bridges.
This trip is finally turning into a reality.
Nate vs. Asia - The prologue is in the making, stay tuned for Chapter 1.

Reply to this I love it when someone says "I just handed in my notice". Nice work man, it's one of those things that starts to make it a reality. Have a beer and savour the experience.

That is excellent.
The next few days will fly by.
How long are you planning to travel?

Thanks D&MJ. There was no actual letter written. It was really just pulling three people aside to talk to them and explaining to them how I feel. That I want to leave on a good note and clean up everything that's outstanding. That I want to take some time off to figure out what's best for me in the long-term. The reality is, I'm young, 25, and realize you can't figure any of that out while working. You need time off to think, reflect, and search for new opportunities.
The plan is constantly changing. As of now, flying out to Bangkok Jan 1, spending Jan - May 31 or so between Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and maybe Indonesia as well before going to Israel for a wedding in June. After some time in Israel, I think I may go to China. I've been contemplating spending time to learn Mandarin, however long that may take - but I'm not sure if I just like the idea of that, or if I can actually take the time and do it. I'm trying to look at this next year + as more of an investment than an expense.
Either way - for the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm in control of my life.

We are so excited for you and will be following you around the globe. It sounds like you have a great outline. Taking time off to think, reflect and search for new opportunities is beneficial at any age. We were around 50 when we did our around the world trip and it has changed our perspective. In some ways we wish we had done it at 25 the way you are doing it and other times we are glad we waited.
Good things will come out of this for you. Looking at it as an investment is a wise idea.
You may want to contact
Johnny speaks about Mandarin. Over the last couple of years he has been studying several languages. I think he knows a bit of Mandarin so he may be able to provide you some guidance.
Have a fabulous trip.

Those 3 weeks are going to really fly by Nate!
Just a suggestion, if you add your friends' email addresses to your public subscriber list, they'll automatically get a direct link to the entry when you publish it - makes it really easy for them to follow your trip :-)
Reply to this Hell Yea @ Nate!
I just did the same thing last week and felt the same exact way as far pulling my boss aside , but I got great feedback from him and he and his boss actually said I would be stupid not to go!
Good Luck on your trip(s)!!
take in every moment!
