Hi
I'm looking for some advice on where to go on a weeks self-guided cycling trip in SE Asia. Looking for the following:
- decent cycle (but not too demanding)
- SAFE! Not too keen on cycling on roads with lunatic drivers
- great scenery and sites to visit
- friendly locals
We're thinking Laos, Cambodia or North West Vietnam.
Any recommendations? My husband and I are looking to head over in December this year.
Thanks
Wendy

I have very little real knowledge on this subject that will be useful to you but I would recommend taking your bikes with you. I have a good friend that did a two or three day bike trip at the great China wall and he said the bikes were crap. It really made the trip difficult. He had imagined nice modern bikes in good shape and that was not the case.
As far as Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam I would make certain you have good health insurance. I don't want to be a downer but our experience there is that many of the roads have pot holes because of the annual flooding. Plus they drive crazy.
If it were me I would pick Holland or Scotland to ride bikes in.
One of the gentlemen I work with did a bike trip in Bhutan and had a marvelous time. I will see if I can get some information for you.
With all that said it sounds like a great trip and the locals will be very friendly.
Reply to this If you aren't keen on lunatic drivers then Vietnam is out.
