Hey guys! I'm happy to be here. I really enjoy travelling. I'm visiting different forums and sites now, looking for interesting information. What do you know about International SIM cards? I still cann't find a correct version. It's very important for me to call my family and friends while travelling. What would you recommend ?
Reply to this Hi Julia,
Welcome to TravelBlog!
Rather than SIM cards, I'd recommend skype - free calls to other skype users, extremely cheap calls to landlines and cell phones anywhere if you put credit on 'skype-out', and it's already installed on most internet cafe computers these days.
Reply to this Hello Jo.
Thank you for response. I agree that skype is the best solution, but not always I have laptop close to me. And very often I really need an urgent call. Thus, I need to find a card, which can help me to save money on phone calls
Reply to this Which countries will you be travelling in, and are you likely to be making most of your calls back to the same country (home)?
Depending on where you'll be, it may work out cheaper to just get a local sim card each time you go to a different country.

As I understand from your question, you are looking for International Roaming SIM card, which can be used worldwide. It depends on what period of time you are going to spend abroad. Different companies which provide International SIM cards, have special offers. I used to work in Norway last year and I used MyTravelPhone roaming card. I should say I managed to save some money on phone calls. Thus, you should just find the right offer.
Reply to this Depends on the country you are in, I have been using my Blackberry world edition for a while and love it, just have to get it unlocked and whatever country you are in stick a sim card in and you are ready to rock...that's the easiest way I've found
Happy travels!
Greg
Reply to this Hello Julia, what country do you come from? The reason being is that the Australian version of International Roaming SIM Cards are different from those for people based in the US, Canada or UK.
Reply to this Hello Shane. I'm currently living in Norway. Going to Florida next week. And I'll be working there for 3 months. So I guess I need a special SIM card, which can be used internationally. I've been reading about MyTravelPhone card at their site, yea, they have different offers. I just should find out what exactly I will need in USA.
Reply to this If you are staying in the USA for three months and not going to other places, you are much better to get a SIM card from USA rather than a global roaming one that is valid in a number of countries.
The reason being is that dedicated multi-country SIM cards are more expensive for calls then those based on calls from just one country. This is a general rule, but there could be exceptions.
Reply to this Point is that I'm not staying in one place during all time. That is why I'm talking about International SIM card. Would be mutch better to get one card, than to buy a local SIM card every time I go to a different country.
Reply to this Depends how long you will be in each country, I reckon if it is more than a couple of weeks, it might be worth it, otherwise an international SIM is the way to go. You'll need to factor in the need to pay for the SIM card and then how do you inform everyone of your new number when travelling in each country. I've only done it twice - one when living in Taiwan for 4 months, and the second was in Kenya so it was easy for my Kenyan friends to find me without them having to pay international call or SMS rates.
Reply to this make sure you read the fine print on the international sim's, extraordinary rates if you are going to be using it a lot!
Reply to this Hi Julia Connor,
International SIM Card helps you save up to 80% on international roaming, while you are traveling in other country. Using international sim card helps you saving from hunting for cheap calling cards as well. Today, there are many telecom providers, which offers international sim card for global travelers. You can check with Cellhire, Brightroam, Rebelfone, AT&T, Verizon etc.
