Where would you travel for 3-4 weeks in October? I'm trying to decide where to go and I'm wondering what everyone else would/will do?
Reply to this Hello A. and welcome to Travel Blog!
Do you want to explore or lay on a beach? Do you prefer cities or getting out in nature?
Where are you starting from and are you on a budget? Have you traveled outside your country before this? More information is needed.
I agree Nepal and parts of India would be great this time of year.
Many place in South America should be considered.
We are going to Morocco in October.
You would be able to explore a fair amount of the south island of NZ in 4 weeks.
Reply to this Hello,
Maybe you can get an idea from here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2007/sep/16/travel
I would choose Europe (Munich - Oktoberfest, i heard from a friend is really nice and fun ).
Reply to this According to me it will be great if you visit the Octoberfest in Munich. This is one very popular festival where you can have a lot of fun. It gathers people from all over the world and you can meet some new friends. However if you decide to take part in it, you have to find accommodation in advance. Look for online hotel websites like www.hitrooms.com where you can find good prices and book in advance because if you decide to have a room directly in the hotel it will be a difficult task to find available. If you need more information about the fest you can check here http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/article/About+the+Oktoberfest/About+the+Oktoberfest/Oktoberfest-Calender+2011/2300/.
Reply to this If you want a himalayan journey, you can join me on a trek/raft expedition I am planning, check out the details below and let me know if interested -
I'm planning a trek and raft expedition in the Indian Himalayas from 22-29 Oct, 2011. Includes rafting on the exhilarating Bhagirathi river and the upper Ganga gorge and a moderate trek to Chopta (4000 mtrs). Itinerary includes camping at Devaritayal lake, jaunts through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests, visiting the highest temple in the world and Tungnath, catching the panoramic sunrise at Chandrashilla and spending Diwali day in the ancient and conluence town of Devprayag - where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers join to form the mighty Ganga.
Cheers, good luck with choosing your vacation

Reply to this October is pretty much the perfect month between seasons if youre not keen on too hot or cold weather. I guess i agree with the other guys, what is your budget, what do you enjoy doing and where are you thinking of going or have/havent been before?
If i had unlimited funds and no children in tow i'd probably head to greece and turkey just to relax around the islands but be in a very different culture to Australia. oh, just realised my hubby would be very keen to head to New Zealand in october as the rugby world cup is on...so worth the trip if youre a rugby follower...maybe stay clear if youre not 😊
let us know what you decide!

Reply to this Thanks everyone, great info.
My wife and I are 30, no children, we live in Hawaii. Cost isn't a major concern but it's not like we have unlimited funds. We don't like to camp or stay in luxurious hotels. Our ideal accommodation is a vacation rental in a great location.
We like laying on the beach but exploring is even better. We travel a lot so this wouldn't be a vacation as much as an expedition.
The cities vs. nature thing is tricky. We love being in nature and we always try to avoid cities, but sometimes we find ourselves in a city having an amazing time. Waikiki and Sydney are both urban environments we've loved and we have a fine time for a day or two in just about any city.
We do like warm weather. Ideally we'd like the temperature in the high 60's or warmer during the day. We love the ocean but we could start to explore inland. I don't think we've traveled anywhere away from the ocean.
Reply to this We could also do this in November. We've never been anywhere in Asia, and Thailand and Indonesia are intriguing. It looks like that might not be the right season for Indonesia but might be right for Thailand?

Reply to this If you go to Thailand you can spend a week exploring Bangkok and then head to places like Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai before exploring the beaches.
If you go to Malaysia you can spend a week in Kuala Lumpur before heading to Taman Negara and the Cameron Highlands. Do a little google search there are a million things to do in Malaysia.
Meandering in Malaysia
If you go to Paris it will be a bit cooler but the city of love and lights is amazing. I would then go north to Monet's home and explore the historic beaches of Normandy. At that point head north to Belgium for chocolate and beer or head south to explore the countryside, vineyards and French Riviera. There are a lot of nice hikes in the French Alps.

October is a good time to head to Africa for a Safari.
South America will offer you many options for nature and the weather you are looking for.

Reply to this Is there a time of year that works well for both Thailand and Indonesia? It would be nice to visit both in the same trip.
We went on an African safari about two years ago and it was amazing. The cost is incredible though, and I don't think it's quite what we're after.
I think we're both in the mood for Europe but it's too cool at that time of year. What's happening in South America? We've been intrigued by Buenos Aires for awhile and I started planning a trip there once but we were turned off by the lack of beaches in the region and we ended up feeling like we wouldn't know what to do once we got there. In South America we've only really been to Florianopolis, Brazil and loved it. We spent 8 hours in Santiago, Chile twice during our layovers to and from Florianopolis and didn't like it there.

Reply to this A good place to go in October would be the balloon fest in Albuquerque. There will be a weeklong celebration with over 700 plus balloons participating. It runs from the 1st through the 9th of October. There is a lot to see in Albuquerque and Santa Fe is only about and hours drive away. Using your time frame of 4 weeks you could rent a car and spend a couple of weeks in the Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos area. Then drive up into Colorado visiting Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods and 7 falls) and then up to Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park. The weather should be in a comfortable range in October.
Actually this is my plan for October pretty much except I am planning on attending the second weekend of the balloon fest and then go to Colorado Springs and Denver then up through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and into Montana again. Weather permitting I will go to Glacier as well.
Reply to this Thanks for the info guys. Some great ideas to be sure. We decided on Japan and we're leaving tomorrow. We'll visit Tokyo and some of the outer Okinawa islands.
Reply to this Enjoy your journey! Japan is an incredible country. Hope to see some blogs of your travels!
