Last year we did exactly what you plan - one month in NZ and then one month on the east coast of Aus. Only difference is we were in NZ in April and Aus in May. Check out my travelblogs from April and May to see what we did and loved...

Craters of the Moon in Rotorua is really worth a visit. The A.C. Baths in Taupo are amazing - they're outdoor and thermally heated so even when you're going and it's quite chilly, you can still go for a swim - you won't want to get out though !

In Qld, Noosa National Park has a nice walk to Hell's Gate and Fraser Island is well worth a visit. If you can manage to get there, the Glasshouse Mountains are good on a sunny day for a view over the Sunshine Coast and the pineapple plantations - forgotten the names of the two I've been to the top of, but they're not really 'mountains' just mighty steep hills !
