Can anybody help me with some info about the most delicious treats in Kuala-Lumpur? I am interested in Kuala-Lumpur street food, desserts, drinks, etc. Reply to this

In KL, there are a lot of places that are opened 24 hours because they love to eat. Go to Jalan Alor / Jalan Kejora for street food.

Food to try:

1.Teh tarik - the literal translation is "pulled tea" - strong tea with sweetened condensed milk. Drink in the morning, as it can be strongly caffeinated.
2. Banana leaf rice - mix of rice, veggies, curries, and deliciousness.
3. Roti Canai - it's sort of like naan bread but yummier and greasier. Dip it in curry sauce. Cheap and delicious
4. Char kuey teow - fried flat noodles. Usually dark brown colored. Delicious.
5. Bak Kut Teh - pork stew.
6. Durian? - The King of Fruit. According to a museum plaque about Malaysian food, "many Asians love Durian, while Caucasians are known to wretch at the very smell of it." ha ha. Very unique fruit. At least try it, even if you don't end up liking it.

Dont miss the mangusteens (type of fruit not sure of the exact spelling) but they often sell in fruit stalls - they are the best fruit I have ever had

Chicken rice - sounds boring but the rice is cooked in the chicken stock and sliced breast meat beside, quite popular with the chinese and makes a nice plain meal - not always served hot in my experience.

Tosai (or dosa), a large crispy pancake to be eaten with curry dips served in the Indian cafes

I agree with Kuno's reccomendation of Roti Chanai - I practically lived off these in Malaysia.

Sambal is a big Malay dish but I couldnt stomach it, very fishy! (sauce made with chilli and dried shrimp paste).

Rendang is Malay curry and very hot and spicy usually with beef.

Of course - the other staple of Malaysia is the Nasi Goreng - slightly different from Indonesia in that doesnt often come with fried egg

Oh - a couple more

Satay, satay, satay!!! this is a very common street food you will see around china town and arround

Also try the Pau (sort of white steamed dumpling wih assorted stuffings like pork and mushroom). Also common on the street

We also tried some lovely sweet meats cooked on the streets in KL china town. A bit like sweet bacon - very nice.
