...Here we were welcomed into the house of Ibu Imul who, as the clouds that had been building all day finally gave vent to their suppressed violence in a massive deluge of rain, served us both a cup of truly sh*t coffee. It was however, possibly the most delicious coffee I have ever tasted. ...

The most expensive cup of coffee that I've heard of is priced at around $50 a cup or $600 per pound. Kopi Luwak is the most expensive roast and is derived from raw red coffee beans that are eaten and partly digested and then disposed of by palm civets in Indonesia. The animal digests the outer part the the coffee cherry, but not the inner bean, which comes back out through the natural process. So essentially, Kopi Luwak comes from palm civet poop.

Back here in Manila, we enjoy a cup of these raw red coffee beans from, as you put it, palm civet's poop, for only $5 . Maybe even less. There is a chain here called "Bo's Coffee" which you can find in almost every mall, which serves that coffee. I have tried it. Many times. Frankly...........I still prefer my blue mountain coffee.

Reply to this Yes :-) I have a bag of Kope Luak and a really crazy "mixed eurasian asian" older friend who loves sitting down with a cup of Kope Luak which he brings back from his travels. The Balinese version is the most generally found on the market and in peoples kitchens - because its the cheapest. The Phillipine and Vietnamese versions are....ok, look, they are all equally disgusting LOL.
Really not that different from all asian versions of coffee with an...earthier?.....taste.
Definitely try some in your lifetime, but dont pay 600 per pound..its really quite er crappy :-)
Reply to this Definitely not going to order this in a grande or venti size, maybe one of those teeny coffee cups. Lol

I didn't try it myself when in Vietnam last time 2006.... but if anyone is currently travelling that way and wants to bring a little bag down to Kuala Lumpur - I'd be more than happy to try it now.
Does the disgust reaction decrease with age? or is this due to having travelled so much more now in Asia? I'm really not bothered by the idea now...

Maybe it is because you wouldnt let at little poo get in the way of having a decent cup of coffee, after years of being subjected to the unsatisfactory Malaysian coffee. Last year in KL, I was having an overpriced coffee at the cafe of the bird park. A Swiss guy came in, ordered a coffee and was so upset that he took no more than a sip before paying and leaving. He even asked me to taste his coffee, so I could confirm to the waitress that it is not good. I told her, that indeed it does not have the sharp bite that the European coffee we Europeans love has.

I will be travelling to exactly where the photo in Msg 1 was taken, in Sumatra. I will bring you a handful, if the section of the jungle floor where those beasties drop it isnt cordoned off.
Ill also be bringing my boyfriend, who wants to see you. I told him, we might be able to presuade you to come out, but I doubt that somebody who hasnt written a single blog will be allowed inside TravelBlog towers. He said, to tell you that he inspired my blogs, so he should get the same VIP tour of TravelBlog Towers I got becuase of it.

I think, he might have changed his coffee brand, since leaving Malaysia. I was going to put that picture of poo coffee from his KL blog in this thread, but the photo of it with declaration of how good it is, is no longer in the blog.
Reply to this We'd be up to giving it a try but we agree with Scott and Kristy that it should be one of those tiny cups. If you remember the movie, "The Bucket List" he drank his out of smaller cups.
It would have been a good idea to post the photo and declaration from ThreeFitty--- too bad you were unable to locate it. Does that make you question his reason for removing it? What assumptions can be made?
It would be fun to find someone on travel blog who has a photo of it and their testimonial.
