Its really easy. You can get the Viatnamese visa in Kunming, they do it in 3 days. Then you can go down to Hekou by bus where you can cross the border (walk over the bridge) and you are in Vietnam. Some touts will be waiting for you when you come out of costums😊)) Then you can go up to Sapa (about 1 hr by bus, bargain hard), which is a nice hill resort or go to Hanoi by train. I suggest not to miss out on Sapa. Reply to this

also, (and this is my plan in about a months time) If you're in Guilin, you can go to Nanning and many backpackers and hostels will happily organise you're visa for no extra commision. The bus from Nanning to Hanoi leaves at 8.30, 9 or 10am from either the tourism information center, or the Landong bus station (make sure you know where you're leaving from) and takes about 6-8 hours including the boarder brossing, and costs about 150RMB.

super easy :D Reply to this

ow great thanks ;-) . We dont have a schedule for China yet (will be there in October) and we will probably go with the flow anyway but good to have different options ;-) is the price you quoted for the crossing only??? Reply to this

no the 150RMB is for the entire trip from Nanning to Hanoi. I think you just have to change buses at the boarder crossing- but its all included in the initial price that you pay.

And apparently it includes lunch! :-) but I'm not sure on that yet lol. Will let you know when I do the trip in a months time. 😊
