We're still looking for 'hosts' to organise casual meetups in some continents. Anyone keen?
With TravelBlog's 9th birthday just passed, we're already looking for ways to celebrate next year's 10th anniversary.
Of course we'll reopen nominations for
The TravelBlog Hall of Fame, but another idea which has been suggested is casual continent meetups, similar to the ones we organise each Christmas - just on a more ambitious scale.
We're hoping that with enough notice, lots of people will be able to attend - so would love to hear your thoughts on the idea.
Which cities are convenient for people to get to?
Are there any great festivals happening there around April 4th?

Reply to this I think London is a must as it's the busiest international airspace in the world!!!!
A decade, where did the time go????
Reply to this The countdown is on!

DAYS

until TBs 10th birthday!!
As mentioned in the opening post, these are casual get-togethers - organised well in advance to hopefully allow more members of the TB community to work one of the locations into their itinerary :-)
Suggested locations so far:
Europe: London
North America: San Francisco / Atlanta / Memphis

Hi Adrian,
One of the moderators has already offered to 'host' a London meetup. Just click on the Europe link above, and either post in the forum or send him a PM.
Reply to this As to what is happening at that time, April 4th is during Easter week, or Passion Week as celebrated Spain. Also, a lot of Spring Breakers heading out from U.S. colleges to warmer climes.
I would attend an event if someone would organize something nearby, like Denver, Colorado, although I would love to go to the one in Bangkok!
However, since the vast majority of us can't attend I have two suggestions:
1) when people date their blogs, use the date when the event happens and in the blog indicate how long you will be there. That way, if the date is current and the timeframe overlaps with others at that location who are searching for this information, the bloggers can try to meet at the last minute. Too many bloggers enter the date when they are writing the blog, as opposed to when the trip happened.
2) sell t-shirts as developed by Ali and
deleted_46288. Nice models, huh! Then we can all order one to wear that day, and TB can make some money.

The Asia meetup is in KL this time, not Bangkok.
"I would attend an event if someone would organize something nearby"
> Even though the North America one is in San Francisco, there's nothing at all to stop you organising a TB get-together yourselves some time in Denver. Just let us know the details and we'll help you publicise it.

I would have thought it were more posting the travel date - maybe not :-)
You could check the profiles of people who have published blogs in the relevant area. While using the 'travel date' is preferred by some, it isn't something we could make compulsory.
Reply to this Perhaps relabeling "Entry Date" to "Travel Date" would help clarify what should be entered...recognizing that you can't make it compulsory. Being a logical engineer I like to read blogs in chronological order, and when bloggers make entries with random dates, their blogs get out of order. When bloggers find out how easy it is to order their blogs, they go back and edit the dates.

> Nice idea, I'll pass the suggestion on.
Reply to this Going pretty well for the KL meeting-up...so far, 4 moderators are confirmed....but way better, more people are posting their interests everyday....great news...we should be at least ten, hopefully way more.
So be ready for Sunday 8th of April. Exact location will be picked with the help of Ali once we know how many people are attending.
The idea is to link KL by skype with the other events going globaly, speaking of the States, London, Sydney, and hopefully few more...
Reply to this OCEANIA NEEDS UUUUUUUU...to show the Rest of the World...we know how to Party...and Party we WILL.
Contact me for SYDNEY.
Travelblog's 10th Anniversary...as if we need a better excuse to get together..!
Looking forward to hearing from you...and we'll work out the most suitable date.
Suggest weekend either side of Easter, 2012.
Reply to this RSVP FOR KL...8 APRIL 2012
As I have not received any response to my Oceania Recruitment Drive to date...I woke up this morning and said in OZ venacular...
"Bugger it...lets go to KL for Easter."
As a result...Please add two more for the KL TB's 10th B'day bash on Sunday 8 April 2012..
"Denise" & "David" for the name tags.
Seems a cool idea to further my quest for enlightenment at the "Holy Shrine" known as TB HQ...on its Holy Day..!
We have just booked flights from Sydney...and hotel in KL...so we are a confirmed RSVP.
Maybe Cockle will come from Vietnam for that long talked about beer...and hopefully many others!
Skype with Oceania for 8 April will need to be with someone else...as we were previously the nominated Skype with Sydney for that day.
I am happy to have a Sydney celebration on the Oceania dates provided in my Recruitment Drive...(other than Easter W/E)...but if someone else should be nominated as Oceania Party Planner...please attend to that.
Looking forward to seeing fellow TB'ers in KL...pretty excited actually..!

In response to: Msg #151222 I sure wish I could be with everyone in KL, But for those of us who can't make it, following up on my previous suggestion, can we at least buy a T-shirt (or a hat) to wear on that date (and occasionally on subsequent travels making it easier to identify fellow TBers). We can take pictures of ourselves and change our profile picture to be just like
deleted_46288.
