TravelBlogs new designer says to think candy floss and crystals. He says, it is in tribute to the hippies, who started this great subculture of backpacking that TravelBlog is all about.
I like the retro idea. I have seen some of the other sites this guy designed, so I think we are in for something special.
Tonight, the new colour scheme will be applied to the Front Page. Then hopefully later it will spread to the blogs as the caches refresh.
From the early releases I've seen I think people are going to love the new look Mel
I think, some changes have been made since the screen shot we saw, so it should be even more polished. I havent seen the latest one yet though, so a surprise for me too. 😊
Really? I loved the one Ali showed us last week so I can't wait to see this one. It really gets to the heart of the traveller culture.
Okay, my front page has already turned pink, <snip>
Argh, my eyes...<snip>, I reckon
Please tell me this is an April Fools 😊
At first glimpse, i can't say i'm really a fan of the new colour scheme. It takes the attention away from the blogs and pictures somewhat and looks garish (my personal opinion only).
If it isn't an April Fools I'm hoping i'll adjust to the changes quickly and never look back, although i'm thinking this might take some time!
Ok please say this is an early April Fools, or perhaps the pink is in support of breast cancer research or something? Whatever the reason I hope it's temporary - it's an absolute eyesore! I agree with the person above it detracts from the photographs and makes everything look a bit tacky. If this is someone's serious ide.... can I please keep my blogs blue? I like blue! Blue is a good colour!
i can't say i'm really a fan of the new colour scheme.
Well, there are a few finishing touches to be put on it. They should be done in the comming week.
i can't say i'm really a fan of the new colour scheme.
Yes, I agree with you. There is too much pink. It needs to be blended with other shades of pink and maybe something to give definition so it doesnt take attention away from the blogs, but instead brings attention to them and the photos. What about a picture frame around the photos and the blogs could have some kind of frame too?
Lets make a list here of what needs to be tarted up a bit
1. The photo accross the top of the Front Page is supposed to give a subtle lava lamp effect. It isnt really achieving that though. I think, we need a different one.
2. Blend the colours a bit more and add definition
3. Some photos are taking on a pink tint. Drat! That should not be happening. Appologies to those whose photos are affected. Bug alert!
I'm hoping i'll adjust to the changes quickly and never look back,
It will look nicer soon, I hope. I sent Ali an email, to ask him to put back the other colour scheme until this one is finished. He is gone diving, so it might take some time though. The person who uploaded the file with these colours says he cant put the other one back, because that file is locked. He is a good designer, but inexperienced with the technical stuff involved with it.
Geez folks! Can you keep it a bit diplomatic. Otherwise, we might lose a new employee, before he even gets to show what he can do for TravelBlog. He just sent me an email. I told him not to worry. He is not the first TravelBlog employee to make a mistake. And, it is only a travel blog site after all, and this is not a life threatening situation.
I agree Mell,
I think people are being far too conservative here...we've had blue for like EVER! Time for a change I reckon.
Or maybe the option to choose between two colors - Blue for boys, Pink for girls?
I'm guessing April Fools from the moderators - they're the only ones to say anything nice about the colours.
(If you are serious I'd like to point out we're not all a bunch of hippies. There are people on this site who are writing from war zones, people working with aids orphans, people who have been in refugee camps. We have people seriously writing about their experiences as doctors, charity workers, soldiers etc - I don't see the relevance of a lurid pink lava lamp look - sorry - I'm still hoping this is a joke)
...people are being far too conservative here...
Well, they have a point. It looked a lot better when we saw the screen shot. I think, he just uploaded the wrong file by accident, or the file got corrupted. Anyway, it is a cr*p time for Ali to go diving, because nobody else who is available can change this back.
Time for a change I reckon.
The pink color over the Home/Newest Blogs/Bloggers etc. part is better than the pink shade used on the lower areas of the home page.
Is the shade of the photo across the front page lilac? Why not use that shade instead? It's better and doesn't strain the eyes.
If you are serious I'd like to point out we're not all a bunch of hippies.
Yeah, it might be a bit too adventurous. There is another option available for TravelBlog V 3.0. It is a 3 colour scheme that looks fantastic, and inoffensive too. It is has a simple minimist 3 colour scheme, that looks great on a wide range of media. It is supposed to come around 6 months after the pink look to give TravelBlog variety so it appeals to a wide audience. Then after that another adventurous look would be put in place for another 6 months.
The pink look is TravelBlog V 2.5
Next will be the more subtle TravelBlog V 3.0
Then there will be another adventurous V 3.5. You and some others will be relieved to hear it will be in festival type colours, rather than hippy.
If V2.5 is too much, then maybe we can just skip to V3.0 which is almost ready anyway.
they're the only ones to say anything nice about the colours.
Well, I asked them to try and keep the thread nice, because it looks like it is going to be a long string of complaints. We got a bunch of emails around an hour ago shouting about it. Some especially dont like that some of their photos have turned pink.
Ugh!! Nasty thought! : The caches might still be in the process of updating. This colour might spread to all TravelBlog pages. Lets hope they are extra slow at the moment.
Temporary fix: Use the button on your monitor to tone down the brightness.
Okay my initial reaction wasn't the best I agree. Thanks for 'snipping' it out.
I agree that some of my pictures aren't flattered by the new background. I think we should perhaps think about modifying the pictures we post, or at least the main one for our blog. Maybe we could brainstorm some ideas?
I like blue! Blue is a good colour!
I really like it... pink is my favourite colour though so it was always going to be a winner with me!
Maybe we could brainstorm some ideas?
I think that if people try to pick the main photo as a more neutral colour then the pink will make it really stand out, failing that something in a really contrasting colour like yellow would work.
Get rid of the pink, please!!!!
