Saturday March 19 you must look at the moon. A rare celestial event is coming.

I've attached the web address for an article by Ed Payne who writes for CNN.
The moon on Saturday will be the biggest moon in almost 20 years and there will not be another one like this until 2029. Get outside and take some photos. They refer to this as a super moon. 14% brighter and 30% bigger.

I recommend we post our photos on Sunday or Monday so we can see how this amazing moon looked all around the world.

Plus--- tell us about other fantastic full moons you've seen in the past.

I thought the full moon is always the same size.

Thanks for this post Merry Jo(or Dave). 😊 I wouldnt want to miss it, since it is rare. I should get a good view of the moon from my balcony hopefully. It is very cloudy at the moment. Hopefully, the weather will be clearer tomorrow.

If anyone takes photos of it, would you post them here. I might post some too, if they turn out OK.

Plus--- tell us about other fantastic full moons you've seen in the past.

I am always fascinated by full moons. My boyfriend likes all the window screens to be shut at night for privacy, but I like them all to be open so light, especially full moon light comes in. Sometimes, I get up during the night to look out the windows if there is something beautiful like the giant lit up Christmas tree in the square accross from our house that is there every Christmas, snowflakes comming down onto an empty street, shadows from the trees in our garden, a full moon... My boyfriend says night time is for sleeping, and not for looking out windows.

Mell,

I've always been interested in celestial events. If you google celestial events 2011 you can learn a bit about what is coming up.
Full moons, meteor showers, eclipses......and the like.

It is rare and not to be missed. Hopefully your clouds will clear and you will be able to enjoy it. I used to sleep with all the screens shut but started opening them in the summer to let the fresh air in and over the years I have gotten used to it. Now, I can enjoy all the things that go on at night.....just as you have suggested. I fall back asleep quickly.

You will find that as you age you will get up to use the restroom more frequently and you may not sleep all the way through the night. Hopefully when that starts to happen with your boy friend he will want the windows open so he can look out.
Maybe if you purchase a small telescope and get him interested in the plants and stars.

The moon out the front of my house is amazing. There isn't a cloud in the sky and the moon is very bright. Unfortunately I don't have my camera with me! : ( Reply to this

Tonight I will be going with my boyfriend to a nice park for viewing the rising moon, and we plan to photograph. Will post pics to this forum if I can figure out how. Tips? Reply to this

Thanks for the post, Merry Jo. 😊

We can see the full moon now too. There are clouds but the moon is sitting nicely in a clear patch. It was so cloudy earlier today, that we thought we would not see it at all. It is huge and yellow and lighting up a big patch of the sky.

We cant show a photo though, because it wont photography clearly enough with our camera. It would be a pity to post something that doesnt do it justice.

Sam: to post pics enlarge the photos and then copy and paste the photo codes incuding the square brackets onto a forum post. The photo will appear there when you submit the post. The photo code consists of the square brackets, Photo= and a number.

It was a red moon when it was at it's largest point here. Beautiful but sadly I was driving at the time so couldn't properly appreciate it! When I looked later it was higher and smaller and silver again. Grrr. Reply to this
