In response to: Msg #2255 Like you I read forums all the time about places I haven't been and would have no helpful advice, I just enjoy reading them and hoping to go to these places some day.
Reply to this I started as a lurker. I started reading blogs about places we were planning to visit, and then forums where people asked the questions I wanted to ask. Then we signed up and I realised that even if you don't travel outside of your own country, you can give information to people planning to visit your country and join in general chats.
As an English teacher I lurk on forums about that, but they are really agressive and judgemental sometimes so I don't like to post. People forget that they were once new to whatever it is, be it travelling or teaching. If newbies ask questions that we think are obvious, we should remember what it was like when we were in that position. I like travelblog because it's friendly and helpful, even if sometimes we think the questions people ask are daft.
Reply to this I too started out as a lurker, fascinated by other people's journeys. I try to blog when I travel but I get so far behind that I usually give up, planning to do it when I get time. There is a lot of discipline involved in being a constant blogger.
When I am following a particular blog over a period of time, I usually make myself known to the blogger as a matter of courtesy. It is also nice to know that someone is actually enjoying all of the effort you put in to writing a blog.

Reply to this I guess I could class myself as a semi-lurker. I don't often make blogs or replies but quite often read blogs and post questions in the forums.
For my previous trip I used a Facebook group to let all my friends know about my travels. But I really like the new layout and I think I'll be using Travelblog for my next trip, the BIG one (hopefully).
Reply to this I am an official lurker - almost everyday at work while I eat my lunch at my desk I read blogs. I had asperations of being a blogger and although I have travelled to all continents I have never actually got around to blogging. Possibly because I only ever get to travel while I take annual leave so have to pack as much in as possible in the three to four weeks that I travel each year.
Reply to this Like many I am a part-time lurker. I do have a blog and make posts, however I have not travelled in quite awhile so at the moment I am inactive.
