Only a few more days to nominate those long-term members who have impressed you with their travel adventures and storytelling.
Phaedrus
phaedrus - long, ranty blocgs that maybe not everyone can stomach but which I find both hilarious and interesting due to his unusual take on travel and sarcasm directed at both others and himself
Reply to this Don't mean to rain on your parade. But how does the "Hall of Fame" works ? Can any blogger vote anyone for HOF even the person they are voting for wasn't really popular (or do not have enough recommendations/followers) ?
I would think to be in the Hall of Fame, the nominee should have lots of recommendations, have been a frontpage and active blogger and have at least 1000 hits in any of his/her blogs ?
Allowing anyone to vote "willy nilly" loses the meaning of it. Just a thought.
Reply to this Hello GreenDragonFly and welcome to the Forum!
These are very good questions you ask, and to answer, there are two stated criteria for this award:
1) Member since 2009
2) 20 or more published blogs
That is the theory, but in practice, this does cover all of the criteria you mention; if people are being nominated it does mean that they have followers and people recommending them, and generally you will find that these same people being nominated will appear on the Front Page and be blogging and/or participating in the forum in some form.
There are exceptions though, the recommendation function is not as old as Travelblog, so some of the earlier folk who did blog a lot and don't anymore will not appear to have many recommends, but it doesn't make them less worthy, just unfortunate timing that they didn't blog when recommends were around. Likewise there are some bloggers that are more popular than other Hall of Fame recipients, but it was not envisaged that there would be subcategories of the Hall of Fame. That may change in the future, but not at this stage.
I'm not sure of the number of current bloggers we have on Travelblog, but it is well over 150,000. The Hall of Fame only has 85 members, so it would be considered to be an award given to only a few.
Re the nominations for
JonathanCampion - he now have five nominations so he is proving to be very popular with his fellow Travelbloggers.
Reply to this Thanks Shane for the enlightenment .
I would like to nominate
travelbuffs for the Hall of Fame. They have been a member since 2006 with 8 recommendations on their profile.
Also a
frontpage blogger publishing amazing photos and informative blogs. I really think they deserve some recognition for their contribution to Travelblog .
Reply to this Hi greendragonfly,
There are over 190,000 TB accounts.
As Shane mentioned, while recommendations are an indicator of popularity, they are not the only factor we are taking into consideration while deciding the 2011 Hall of Fame inductees - that's why we are asking people to add their own nominations for bloggers they follow who have already been nominated.
We're keeping track in the background of how many nominations each has received :-)
Reply to this As well as looking on
The Hall of Fame page, you can look for the Hall of Fame award logo on a blogger's profile page to see if they have been added previously.
Reply to this Travel, along with the good memories and experience you collect, is also about the pictures you capture. Pics give colour to memories and give life to our experiences.
Maria(angelrinoa116) balances these two things very well. Her blogs are full of mesmerising pictures and lovely, well articulated experiences.
Hence, I recommend Maria for the hall of fame.
Reply to this Hi Vikas,
Agree with you there, but Maria only joined TB last year, and has published less than 20 blog entries, so unfortunately doesn't yet qualify for the Hall of Fame. Next year :-)
Reply to this On the road again with hopefully a better Internet connection in a week...(and quite a few pending blogs!)
My favorite bloggers are
Liliram for a fantastic and very personal testimony of friendship
Edvalance: can only agree with other bloggers, he got some really good adventure blogs
Livingthedream: really enjoyed the serie of blogs he wrote from every corner of the globe AND was really glad to see he is traveling again (nice blogs about India)
The travel camel: great pictures and writing style, what else? Well, love the way he experiences some of the remote places he got to visit while depicting in a very human way the locals he met. Great blogs about ethiopia.
Reply to this Traceydoxey is an other of my favorite, great blogs full of life about China!
And the last one (for now) Slovenian girl, an energic blogger who is clearly enjoying every second of her life!
Cheers from Tanzania and thanks for the nomination !
Laetitia
Reply to this Hey Laetitia, thank you for your kind words, but both you are I are already in the Hall of Fame! Same goes for Ed Vallance and Living the Dream.
Liliram, Slovenian Girl, Traceydoxey are not, so their nominations have been noted.
Enjoy Tanzania!
Reply to this Is is too late for me to say thank you? to the people who have nominated me. I'm very surprised and very happy because I've often thought that I shouldn't write the blogs. for me, it has to be Ed but he has already been in the hall of fame so can't be nominated this year - he and his blogs make we want to just pack up and go again. thanks again. tracey
