Name the country that you have visited and that is, in your opinion, the dirtiest in the world.
I make a strenuous effort to keep my personal level of squallor so high that no matter where I go, it's an improvement!
Reply to this i think its india..havnt been to any other country..but me being an indian, m sure it tops the list....
Reply to this Though it is my favourite country in the world, India gets my vote for the dirtiest. Egypt should get an (dis)honourable mention here, there are some filthy parts of the country - portions of Cairo are just awful, and I remember some other areas being very poor in terms of cleanliness as well. Saw some small towns in Yemen that looked like open-air garbage dumps.
Reply to this The awful thing about when I was in India was the way people just threw away rubbish onto the street. I remember clearly when I was near the rat temple in Bikaner when I was next to a bin drinking tea and a local threw his cup on the ground about 1 metre from the bin. Myself and my buddy just laughed and shook our head at him in. He didn't even see what he did was wrong and carried on.
Another time I wanted to hand back some rubbish to a shop owner, and he motioned me to chuck it on the ground...
If 1.1 billion people will not throw rubbish into a bin even when provided this country is going to have serious trouble clearing up the mess!
Also burning rubbish (including plastic) happens everywhere....its gonna take a long time to turn the tide...

Maybe everyone needs to live in Singapore for one year. I think they would gain a cleaner consciousness.
Reply to this Hi
I would have to say the dirtiest country is India.
Reply to this I must admit I'm not as well traveled as some of the people here but I struggle to Imagine a County dirtier than India, but off-course India still has many redeeming qualities.
Reply to this Hi,
I am an Indian. I have not traveled any other country except for India, But I would still say India is a dirty country. People just don't care. They spit, they through garbage on roads. But I did read all the replies here and I am happy to know that they still like India and would want to visit it gain, Especially Scott. Thank you Scott. We are trying and hoping the situation will change. ..........
Reply to this I haven't been to India yet, but still plan on going. The dirtiest country I've been to has to be Morocco, in every respect. Rubbish strewn all over the place, globs of phlegm wherever you tread, urine stench in alleys, filthy and greasy seats, arm- and head rests on local buses, revolting squat toilets, and the most vile, hateful, dishonest and unhospitable people I've ever met, anywhere.
Reply to this Hi, India is certainly in my bucket list and i'm hoping i can delist it soon enough with a visit. I'm ready for the filth. Some areas in my own country have that too. But I am told it's really something out there.
Perhaps what i should ask is why India still sticks as a favorite destination despite the filth. I didn't read much about how "cheap" it could be going around India, or how easy to tour around the country, or how charming the people are (though I'm sure they are), or how good Indian cuisine is (i love it, but i' m sure it's not for everyone's taste)........so, would it be because of the temples, the culture? all that mystery?
Reply to this Some areas in Egypt are pretty revolting, however, my vote, again, would go with India, which sadly is one huge dumping ground for sweet, putrid smelling garbage that is then left to fester in the tropical heat.
That said, India is a country that offers culture and tradition in quantities that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. As I stated in my Varanasi blog, the Ganges is supposed to be sacred to the Hindu people yet while there, I saw on more than one occasion, Indians dumping garbage and waste galore into it, which I did find to be rather hypocritical. Anyway, don't let these negative aspects put you off. India is one of those countries that just has to be explored, just remember to take a peg for your nose 😊
Reply to this I can say Bulgaria. It is awful. Everywhere there are homeless dogs. All the beautiful nature they have is covered of garbage.
Reply to this I have visited only in Europe but definitely the dirtiest are the poorest countries where there is no sanitation system. Have a look on google -the dirtiest cities in the world.

We've recently returned from Morocco and were pleasantly surprised. It was not as dirty as we thought it might be. We were out in the middle of no where and saw a gentleman squatting under an olive tree doing his business. When you are that far out of town you don't have a lot of options. I did think it odd that he selected a tree near the highway.
Reply to this Without a doubt -- INDIA. But loved every stinking minute of it!
