I came across this thing in my research to find the most efficient way of taking money with me to the UK: http://www.us.travelex.com/US/Home/
You can get this Cash "passport" which acts like a prepaid debit card. You load british pounds on it after conversion. Then you can use it as a credit card there without any 3% transaction fees. At the ATM, the only fee you would pay is the ATM's own withdrawal fee.
I don't get it. It sounds too good to be true. Has anyone ever used this or can find the 'catch' here?
Reply to this I did! it is a great option ifyou workin the Uk and cant get a bank acount like many of us.
Reply to this Try Googling it and I'm sure you'll find a whole host of reviews detailing its bad (and good) points.
Reply to this The NAB in australia has a account with a gold debit visa card attached to it. There are no fees for on withdrawals(so no 3%). And if u maintaina balance of 2k or more(ithink) there are no accounting fees either.(otherwise $10 a month) The other huge bonus is that if u use the gold visa debit card to buy airline tickets then it includes free travel insurance as well. The only charge u will get is if the foreign bank levies a charge but as far as australian end, there are no charges. when we got it sounded too good to be true, but it worked like a charm. My daughter lost her card in europe one night and they replaced it in 48 hrs no charge as well.
This tops the cash passport big time. check it out.
